Convince me #6
Convince me that one of the mid-late lottery defensive seven footers (Yi Jianlian, Tiago Splitter, Hasheem Thabeet, Aaron Gray, Roy Hibbert) has more offensive potential than the others and Greg Oden has more potential than all of them. If you are targeting one of these players and don't get the top pick, is it a good strategy to trade down as much as you can, take the player left and get additional picks or players? Does it really matter which player you end up with?

Re: Convince me #6
I think Yi has the most potential out of all of them and I would take him over any in that list. Splitter's game isnt what it used to be and I am not sure why. I also dont know when Splitter will ever enter a draft.
Oden has a ton of potential on offense because his game is geared more towards the NBA. In the NBA most teams play inside out, in college teams play from the perimeter in (OSU).
As I keep saying, when a NBA coach works with Oden to develop a few moves and his hand heals properly he will be a force.

Re: Convince me #6
Splitter is in this draft and he can't pull out because of his birth year

Yi Jianlian has Chris Bosh like potential. Nice jumpshot, great athleticism, nice touch. However, he lacks the KG passing ability as he has never been a playmaker.
Aaron Gray looks like a bust. Greg Oden has Dwight Howard potential.

Appears likely Thabeet will stay in school and he should. Gray, Hibbert and Splitter should be in some teams rotation but probably arent going to woo anyone beyond that, size matters and those 3 should go by the middle of the 1st round. Yi is not a bigman per se, he's a near 7ft finesse powerforward, someone like Phoenix will grab this guy with a pick in the 6-8 range and he will blowup at the pro level, he might just be a bit of a media favorite, just a hunch.

Re: Convince me #6
Aaron Gray and Hasheem Thabeet should not be lottery picks.

As far as potential, it goes:
1.) Yi
2.) Hasheem
3.) everyone else

Re: Convince me #6
Roy Hibbert is very underrated. He has great potential as well.

Re: Convince me #6
Oden will never be a great offensive player. Most of his offense right now is only a result of his size at the college level. In the NBA matched up against gusy almost hsi size, and not half of it, he won't be all that great. He has only oen real post move which is very mechanical and not very pretty. The fact he is so huge and well developed will make it harder for him to develop a killer post game because he's kind of stiff. The moves won't come natural to his body as comapred to somebody like a more fluid Eddy Curry.
Thabeet sucks plain and simple. I don't understand why people still buy into his hype. He has not showed enough this year to be a lottery pick plain and simple. Right now he's nothing more then Sauer Sene. He needs more time with Calhoun and show me more to even think about ever considering him a lottery pick.
Splitter is a good prospect still. He showed a good scoring touch at the Fiba's being Brazil's leading scorer ahead of Lenadro Barbosa. Playing behind Scola I don't expect him to put up monster numbers. He has great mobility and knows how to play the game. His fundamentals are great and he can contribute from day1. His footwork defensively is miles ahead of any of these other prospects, and in my opinion be the best defender out of this group besides Oden with the leauge becoming more preimter oriented with bigs that can dribble, pass, and shoot. He won't get exposed on the perimter like Gray, Hibbert, and Thabeet.
I've never seen Yi play. Youtbe clips don't count, and I don't really think I could manage to watch a full CBA game truhfully.
