Carmelo may end up being a better player than Darko, but I doubt he'll be so much better that Detroit will be kicking themselves. I think it'll be more like the Olajuwan, Jordan thing, while every agrees Jordan is the greater player but nobody questions the pick of Olajuwan.
But Vitale clearly has a bias against foreign players, when he put his best picks, he didn't even include Malciej Lampe at #30, who probably would've went #5 if it wasn't for his contract issue in europe. But he did include Dahntay Jones, please that was an awful pick I don't know what Jerry West was thinking.

I was getting pretty tired of him being so biased against forgeign player and so liking of ACC players. Everytime an ACC player was drafted, he couldn't stop praising the team and the player.

Dicky V is starting to annoy me... I mean, he used to be one of my favourite commentors, just cuase he is so excited about everything... but now he is starting to sound like a crazy old man... in the past few days he has written an article on how he thinks every euro player will be a bust and an article about high schoolers making the wrong decision... well, Dicky, lets list off some of the best players in the league... Dirk, Kobe, Tracy, KG... well, no one will argue that they among the top 10 players in the league and not one spent a minute in Dicky's beloved college system... hey Vitale, tell me again in ten years about how LeBron and Darko were such busts, and i'm pretty sure everyone will get a good laugh outta it!

I agreed with Vitale about most of the foreigners comming over aren' ready, but I totally am in disagreement that college stars and 4 year ones at that are much better and much more prepared to play hte NBA game. He was so annoying to listen to last night. Oh yea Ford's size doesn't hurt him but Rid's size(6'2" 175 ) hurts him. You don't need to bench anything to put hte ball in the hole. Dickey V is just a hypocrit. He nuts over Collison, Hinrich, Wade, Ford, Gaines, West, Howard,Cook but totally rips on Ridnour,etc.....WTF is up with that...seriously

Has anyone ever really taken what Dick Vitale has to say to heart? I know I haven't. I'm just gonna laugh when "the best player in the draft" aka T.J. Ford turns into the next Brevin Knight.

There is more truth to what Dickie V. says than people want to believe. We have been riding the Euro hype since mid season when Chad Ford was doing his Euro diaries and every draftnik was eating it up because it was the only major media draft info out there.
This is the year for the Euros to prove their stock. If Euroleague is such an advantage than Darko should have the same impact as Amare did if not better. Pietrus should challenge for big minutes.

The euro leages are pretty good now days....I don't think that's the problem with a lot of these euro players.
The problem I see is that they are like 17-18-19 years old and haven't even played much in the euro leagues, they are picked purely on potential....
