Ron Steele

Is he really looking to stay in this draft, or is he using the pre-draft camp to try and strengthen his stock going into the 2008-09 season?

Considering that he sat out last season with injury, and the year prior he was hampered with a hurt knee could a second round promise be enough to keep him in the draft? If that's the case do you see him doing enough to secure a second round guarantee?

Based on his play, when healthy, what's best case scenario for him on the next level? Worst case?

Re: Ron Steele

This dude is 22 already and coming off a major injury. Unless he regains his 2006 form (for 2009), he is looking at a career overseas. I don't see any future for him. Should have came out as a sophomore.

Re: Ron Steele

He obviously should've come out as a sophomore, but it's a little too late for that now, huh? I think he will be a late 2nd round draft pick. He could end up being a steal if he regains full strength, and I think a team that doesn't have anything to lose will take a shot at him within the last 10 picks of the 2nd round. My advice for him would be to rehab over the summer and come back strong for his final year of college and get his name back in the 1st round. But I think that at this point he's probably feeling the pressure to move on to the next level

Re: Ron Steele

Woud be stupid to stay in the draft. Needs to return to school.

Re: Ron Steele

Unfortunately he's damned if he does and damned if he doesn't. There really is not "smart" thing for him to do at this point. I wish him the best because he was one of my favorite college players when he was on the court. I absolutely loved his game. Maybe his younger brother will have better luck...

Re: Ron Steele

ESPN is reporting that he has decided to withdraw from the draft and return to Alabama. I think that under the circumstances, that really is the smart thing for him to do. He is very unlikely to become a first-round lock for next year, but he was absolutely not going to be one this year. It's wise for him to 1) get his degree and 2) become 100% healthy and make a run at All-America status. Either way, he's got a pro basketball career at some level ahead of him, and either way, it's unlikely to be as a high-level NBA player. He may as well take advantage of going to college for free. That is hardly a tragedy, after all: it may not be what he went there for, but it's a hell of a perk to anyone smart enough to take advantage.
