Vuchato's Mock Draft #1
Well, I've done a few, but I figure I might as well post one. No trades yet, I'll probably do one with them at a later point.
1. Chicago Bulls-Michael Beasley, PF/SF, Kansas State
Considered by many to be a top contender in the East, it became very apparent that they weren't going to get anywhere without a post threat. Beasley can give him that, and possibly bring them to the top of the East in a season or two.
Otherwise: Derrick Rose
2. Miami Heat-Derrick Rose, PG, Memphis
Pat Riley loves this guy, and they need a PG big time. A Rose/Wade back court would be one of the best in the game.
Otherwise: OJ Mayo
3. Minnesota Timberwolves-OJ Mayo, SG/PG, USC
Would be a great pair with Foye. Also gives the team a marketable name, which they could use, they lack marketable players.
Otherwise: Brook Lopez
4. Seattle Sonics-Jerryd Bayless, PG/SG, Arizona
This could be the biggest gimme in the draft, everything seems lined up for Seattle to take Bayless and pair him with Durant as a dynamic backcourt.
Otherwise: Kevin Love
5. Memphis GriZZlies-Kevin Love, PF, UCLA
This is a guy who's stock has raised tremendously recently, from being a borderline lottery pick to having the teams at the 3-5 spots all seeming to have interest. He has canceled his workout with the Nets, who pick at 10 and could move up, so I believe he could have a top 5 promise. Memphis needs frontcourt help tremendously, and Love could be the best big in the draft after Beasley.
Otherwise: Brook Lopez
6. New York Knicks-Danilo Gallinari, SF, Italy
D'Antoni likes players who can handle the ball, and no non-point guard in the draft can do that better than Dani. They could certainly use a SF as well. He could also appeal to the large Italian population in New York.
Otherwise: Eric Gordon
7. Los Angeles Clippers-Eric Gordon, SG, Indiana
They are set at SF and C with Thornton and Kaman, respectively, and they need a shooting guard to replace Maggette when he leaves, which he in all likelihood will, and Gordon at this point is probably the best player anyway.
Otherwise: DJ Augustin
8. Milwaukee Bucks-DJ Augustin, PG, Texas
Mo Williams isn't cutting it at the point, they need someone to replace him. Augustin is the best point left at this point, and with the remaining top options being big men at this point, which they have plenty of young ones, so they take DJ here.
Otherwise: Russell Westbrook
9. Charlotte Bobcats-Brook Lopez, C, Stanford
They've never had a strong scoring player next to Okafor, and unless they want a player to push Felton, they're set at the rest of their spots.
Otherwise: Russell Westbrook
10. New Jersey Nets-Anthony Randolph, PF/SF, LSU
All indications are that the Nets will take a big man with this pick, and unless they believe that Krstic will return to form, they need a post option more than anything else. Randolph probably won't do much for a while, but he has an incredibly high ceiling, an could provide the best post option for the Nets that they ever have had.
Otherwise: Darrell Arthur
11. Indiana Pacers-Russell Westbrook, PG/SG, UCLA
They could use a lot of things, but they really could use a point guard. Diener shouldn't be a starter, and it's impossible to tell what will happen with Tinsley.
Otherwise: DeAndre Jordan
12. Sacramento Kings-Darrell Arthur, PF, Kansas
They've been terrible at the 4 spot for a while now, Arthur could hopefully fill the void. They're pretty much set at the other spots, Kevin Martin is a premier young shooting guard, Spencer Hawes and Brad Miller have the center spot full, and they're crowded at small forward. They could use a point as well, but Udrih is servicable.
Otherwise: Marreese Speights
13. Portland Trailblazers-Joe Alexander, SF, West Virginia
We all know the deal here, they either need a 1 or a 3. Alexander is probably the best at either spot left, and at least according to one report, Portland made a promise that they'd take him here.
Otherwise: Donte Greene
14. Golden State Warriors-Marreese Speights, PF, Florida
He has a high ceiling, but could also contribute right away, maybe even start halfway through the season. He's also athletic enough to do well in Golden State's up tempo system.
Otherwise: Donte Greene
15. Phoenix Suns-DeAndre Jordan, C, Texas A&M
He wouldn't be needed to contribute right away, this would be the ideal situation for him. The Suns would have to hope he could fulfill his potential, if he did, he would be an amazing pair with Amare.
Otherwise: Donte Greene
16. Philadelphia 76ers-Roy Hibbert, C, Georgetown
Philly needs a scoring big, Dalembert doesn't seem like he can fill that role. Hibbert is a top post option in this draft, and the 6ers don't really have any other needs assuming they re-sign Iguodala.
Otherwise: Kosta Koufos
17. Toronto Raptors-Donte Greene, SF, Syracuse
After being considered but passedover by many teams, the Raptors finally take him. They need either a big, bruising center, or a second scoring option, from the wing. Greene could be the most talented scorer left here, so Toronto takes him here.
Otherwise: Chase Budinger
18. Washington Wizards-Javale McGee, C, Nevada
Unless they lose Arenas, they're biggest need is a backup big. McGee can fill that spot, and maybe become great down the road.
Otherwise: Robin Lopez
19. Cleveland Cavaliers-Brandon Rush, SG, Kansas
Rush could come in and immediately give the Cavaliers another option on the wings, they need a 2 as well, unless they consider Gibson or West one. He could also hopefully be the type of shooter they were hoping for when they made the Szczerbiak trade.
Otherwise: Chase Budinger
20. Denver Nuggets-Kosta Koufos, C, Ohio State
The Nuggets main needs are another passer, a good wing defender, and a big man who can take attention from Iverson and Melo. With Rush and all the good points gone, Koufos is the only player left who fills any of these needs well.
Otherwise: Jason Thompson
21. New Jersey Nets-Chase Budinger, SF, Arizona
The Nets biggest need, after taking Randolph at 10, is a shooter, or really any guy who can play offense off of the bench. Chase could also start in the likely scenario where Richard Jefferson is traded, unless the Nets get a wing in return.
Otherwise: Nicolas Batum
22. Orlando Magic-Robin Lopez, C, Stanford
The Magic need a big man who can help out Dwight. Robin can at least do that on the defensive end.
Otherwise: Jason Thompson
23. Utah Jazz-Nicolas Batum, SF, France
Kirilenko looks like he may be moved this offseason, so the Jazz take a guy who can possibly replace him. If Andrei isn't moved, he can stay over in France for another year, and then join the Jazz to help them out then.
Otherwise: Chris Douglas-Roberts
24. Seattle Sonics-Jason Thompson, PF, Rider
At this point, the Sonics still and probably always will need another big. Thompson could be the best big available at this point, so Seattle takes him and hopes they finally get a big to pan out.
Otherwise: JJ Hickson
25. Houston Rockets-Chris Douglas-Roberts, SG, Memphis
Houston needs a good scorer to go along with Tmac, and CDR fits the bill wonderfully here.
Otherwise: Ty Lawson
26. San Antonio Spurs-JJ Hickson, PF, N.C. State
Despite Duncan's denials, its easy to see that the Spurs need frontcourt help, so they take Hickson here to try and help out a bit.
Otherwise: Alexis Ajinca
27. New Orleans Hornets-Ty Lawson, PG, North Carolina
They need someone to replace Pargo, in case he decides to leave.
Otherwise: Courtney Lee
28. Memphis Grizzlies-DeVon Hardin, C, California
They hope Hardin can help out their frontcourt, even with Love they are still thin.
Otherwise: Bill Walker
29. Detroit Pistons-Alexis Ajinca, C, France
They're going to need someone besides Maxiell in the frontcourt for the future, but he can stay in France for now while they still have McDyess, and for the time being, Sheed.
Otherwise: Bill Walker
30. Boston Celtics-Gary Forbes, SF, UMass
They don't really have a need, so they take the local favorite, who could maybe replace Allen when he leaves/retires.
Otherwise: Bill Walker
