Heat are idiots if they accept trade
Because they are dealing Brian Grant, Lamar Odom, Caron Butler AND a first for Shaq. The only good player they will have left on that team is Wade, and having Shaq on that team could harm his development.

I agree. Landing Shaq in free agency is a thing, trade half of your young team for him is another thing.

Miami make this deal because Wade, Odom and Butler is not a championship nucleus. It just isn't.
In the short-term - Shaq, Wade, Jones, Haslem and whoever signs on the MLE and LLE makes this team a legitimate championship contender for the next 2-3 years.
Without the trade, Miami is still worse than Detroit and Indiana, and that's without mentioning the Western Conference.
In the long-term - the 40 million dollars that Miami will have wrapped up in Shaq and Eddie Jones will soon be available to Dwyane Wade and one or two other top flight NBA players. You would have to assume that Dorrell Wright will have established himself by this point also.
Without the trade, Miami is still worse than Detroit, Indiana, Houston, Minnesota, Phoenix, Dallas etc. etc.

Wade, Jones, and Shaq are all very good players. But right now, outside of those three, they barely have anybody of NBA quality on their roster. I don't think this is a good move by the Heat but at the same time I certainly don't think Shaq will harm Wade's development.

I don't think that you can put B grant in the column with good players, I think that he isn't as good as people give him credit for.

ok. Stop with this Grant is trash bs. He is a warrior who gives his all every night, fights for rebounds, and plays great defense. I think all of you are forgetting who stopped Jamaal Magloire, the all star center, and held him to a terrible series. He wad huge for us last year. He even guarded Shaq and Yao well, holding his own defensively when we faced them. Also did well against Jermaine in the second round, even when injured

Wade accomplished this in two consecutive series in the 2005 playoffs.
2. Joined Wilt Chamberlain, Magic Johnson, and Allen Iverson as the only players ever to record games of 40+ points, 10+ rebounds, and 15+ assists in the same playoff season in 2005.
3. Holds the record for being the only player in NBA history to ever average at least 30 points on 69.5 field goal percentage for four consecutive NBA playoff series games (5/23/06-5/29/06). The last record was held by Kareem Abdul-Jabbar with 63%. Wade accomplished it with less than 20 field goal attempts per game

The thing that gets me is that they don't give them this year's 1st Rounder, instead the very earliest they could get the pick is 2006. The late they get the pick, the better it will be in all likelihood because Shaq will continue to decline.

Brian Grant is promising?
One day, the Heat will have about 20+ million to spend in the Free Agency, and that's good enough to build around Wade and Wright IMO.

I see it much differently. This team lost any bench strength besides Malik Allen when Skip decided to sign with Toronto. Plus Dorell Wright might not contribute too much, He's just a rook (although he does look promising). This is only gonna be Dwayne's second year, he isn't Kobe yet. When Wade is coming into his own Shaq will be old and fat (more so then now). Eddie Jones is deffinately going to be WAY out of his glory days (possiblly not even on the team anymore) when Wade is surging. Haslem has shown flashes but he's terriblly inconsistant to this point. Now, they'll capture their disgraceful division for years probablly but they will NOT be able to compete with the Pistons. If I'm proven wrong and this team ends up in the finals they will not beat the Kings, T-Wolves, Rockets (Yao- Approaching Prime, T-Mac-Prime>>>>>Shaq-Declining, Wade-Still Adjusting).
Caron, Wade, Odom, Haslem, and Wright could've grown up together and hit their primes around the same time, making them a definate Championship condender down the road. Just a huge mistake by the Heat management.
On top of all of this they lost a first rounder. Ouch.
