I just caught 3 summer league games in person today and wanted to offer some of my observations:
First, I just would like to announce that Britton Johnson and Laron Profit have the skinniest calves in the world.
Dajuan Wagner: He is one of the most selfish players I've ever seen. He shot/drove the ball way too much, and failed to convert on the vast majority of his attempts. He would pass the ball, and then would command it back. Wagner can definitely take it to the rack and is aggressive, but needs to involve his team more (i.e. not shoot it every time he touches the ball).
Niko Tskitishvili: He impressed me very much today. Despite his size, he was very agile. He showed great perimeter skills. Skita looked lost sometimes, but made many outstanding plays. I think he will can special with time.
Guillerme Giovannoni: I had never heard of this guy before today. He is a 6'6 swingman with very good offensive skills. He hit multiple outside shots, showed very good ballhandling skills, and made a couple of highlight finishes. Although he has a very undeveloped physique and didn't show much on defense or on the boards, his offensive skills are enough to take a 2nd look. Remember this name.
Dwight Howard: This kid is a man-child. He was easily able to overpower those he faced in the post. He seemed to have decent court awareness and was very poised. Dwight definitely needs work on refining his post skills, but his rebounding and shotblocking will be an immediate factor.
Jameer Nelson: He is a player, plain and simple. I think anyone that thinks he won't succeed in the NBA is nuts.
Maciej Lampe: I think he has a bright future. He was aggressive in the post, and knocked down the mid-range many times with ease. He moved very well for his 270lb frame. I think he just needs time.
Casey Jacobsen: I've never really been a big fan of his, and today reaffirmed my opinion. Occassionally, he seems like he is a big-time scorer, but is too erratic, and always trys to do too much. The guy just seems immature.
Al Jefferson: This guy is ready to play right now. He scored in many different ways around the hoop and seemed to have great hands. He is not a project; I think he can be an immediate factor.
Marcus Banks: He hasn't really changed must from his UNLV days. He is still deadly driving to the hoop and is tough on defense. I think his shot has improved, but think he is still looking to score first - which is his forte. If Marcus can improve his shot and get his teammates more involved, he will be an All-Star. He is absolutely explosive going to the hoop; when he takes it to the hole, it may not go in every time, but count on him getting to the line.
Delonte West: just like Jameer, he can flat out play. PG or SG, he is a basketball player, and a very good one.
Jared Jeffries: he made some good plays, but something just didn't sit right w/ me. I think he plays too much on the perimeter and shys away from the post, perhaps where he should be. He made a couple of bonehead plays, but followed them up w/ some spectacular ones. He's kind of an enigma.
