Put it this way: It hit the fan yesterday. Trades and signings were going down left and right. ...
We're huge fans of Chris Mullin, and we'd like to defend him the best we can, but some of his moves are more than questionable. He's made some good moves (drafting Andris Biedrins) and some bad moves (backing up the truck for Derek Fisher, letting Brian Cardinal walk). But yesterday, we think he made a solid move, dealing Nick Van Exel to Portland for Dan Dickau and Dale Davis. We back Nick all the way, but he's older, his knees are creaky and he still makes a lot of money. Dickau will be the third point guard behind Speedy and Fish, and Dale will be a solid front liner (even though he's coming off his worst season as a pro). Mullin may have made another move later in the day. More on that in a minute. ...

The Sixers traded Eric Snow to Cleveland for Kevin Ollie and Kedrick Brown. Yes, Snow's older, his skills are diminishing and he has a long-term contract, but Billy King couldn't get better than this? There are a lot of teams that could use a solid point guard (Houston?). We were thinking that because Philly now has some extra cash and way more contracts than their roster can hold, another, bigger move must be on the way right?
(Then we heard that San Francisco sports radio was reporting that the Sixers and Warriors were going to pull off a sign-and-trade that would send Erick Dampier to Philly for Glenn Robinson and Kyle Korver. )
That would be a great move for Philly, and before you kill Mully for it, think about what Golden State would get out of the deal. Even though they lose a lot of height, they get a scorer in Big Dogg (when he feels like it) a shooter in Korver, and Dogg is in the last year of his contract. That's a better deal than the garbage package that Isiah is reportedly offering of Nazr Mohammaed and Othella Harrington. ...
Greg Ostertag signed with the Kings. ...
There was an unbelievable photo and caption in the Toronto Star yesterday. Here's the caption: "A security guard acts as a buffer for Vince Carter, in car, as the Raptor prepares to leave his basketball camp yesterday in Scarborough." Who was mobbing Vince so badly that he needed his security to act as a buffer? The photo was of a diesel security guy "protecting" Vince from two very little kids. Outside of his camp. For little kids. ...
If you haven't seen the clips of Shaq's introduction to Miami yesterday, sit your *** in front of a TV until they show them again (or check them out right HERE). There were super soakers, tractor trailers, he talked about running naked on the beach and he compared himself to toilet paper. And those were just a few of the highlights. ...
A blurb in a Denver paper noted that Nikoloz Tskitishvili was given a night off from the Nuggets' summer league squad the other night. What? From a summer-league game? The guy's taken the last two years off. He needs all the work he can get. ...
We're out like Vince and little kids.
