Good Lord! This means that the Lakers could go out and Kidd get for virtually nothing if they wanted to. Damnit Lakers, it's time to bust out.....

MemphisX once again, dropping some knowledge. I also like the deal very much for Atlanta. The fact that Al Harrington can defend 3's or 4's, makes Antoine Walker much more dangerous. Plus the fact that their games complement one another so well. Walker likes the perimeter, Harrington loves the low block and can be devastating.
If Dampier signs the 3-yr deal or not, they are sitting pretty. They should probably tender Sura a deal for a year, but other than that, they are looking real nice.
To summarize the Hawks swing players:
Josh Childress and Donta Smith will most likely be big SG's
Boris Diaw-Riffard will be a Jack-of-all-trades do it all point forward coming off the bench.
Josh Smith is their future superstar SF.
A young guy who wants to be the man and has the passion for it in Al Harrington as a PF, but versatile enough to play the SF for your team.
Future team:
PG -
SG - Donta Smith (he will start over Childress in a year or two)
SF - Josh Smith
PF - Al Harrington
C -
Then enough cap room to build around a nice core of talent. Billy Knight is doing it the right way. Throwing near max-money at a 22 y/o Tony Parker next year and some big money at either Big Z, Dalembert or Chandler, could net them a tremendous windfall. I wish the stupid Warriors, were this proactive.

Sad to see JT go, but at least he'll finally get to see what its like to win in the pros. The offseason after this one should be interesting for the Hawks. And I'm glad Henderson is finally gone, even on the bench that guy annoyed me. As a bonus, I'm one of the few on this board who doesn't dislike Toine.

I always thought Jason Terry was a good player. Sucks he was trapped on the Hawks for so long. Now he can really show people what he's got.

The Hawks are also getting Tony Delk in the deal, but he's essentially a throw in. Nothing more than depth.
Two point guards that the Hawks are interested in for the short term are Mike James and Damon Jones. I'd look for the Hawks to sign one of those two to a short term contract, play the season out, and then look towards the draft for a point guard next year.
PG - Mike James or Damon Jones
SG - Josh Childress
SF - Al Harrington
PF - Antoine Walker
C - Erick Dampier
That's not a bad team. That is a team that could possibly finish ahead of the Wizards and Magic as the 2nd place team in the Southeast Division.

Well, compare that to
PG - Terry
SG - Diaw
SF - Stephen Jackson
PF - Reef
C - Theo
It's not that much better, if at all. Problem with Atlanta is the coach, not the players, imo. Get a better coach, dammit. There are/were quite a lot of capable coaches out there.

I disagree. Walker is still an all-star in the east. It's only been a year since he was an all-star. It's not like his skills deteriorated in Dallas, he just wasn't the 1st and 2nd option like he was when he was in boston.
And Dallas will be a playoff team as long as they have Dirk, imo. Surround Dirk with solid role players(if you can call Finley, Stackhouse, Terry role players) and they're a playoff team.

I'm with ya C-Dog! Walker will have a good season this year - don't forget its a contract year as well. He lost a lot of weight before last season and is now gonna be playing on an Atlanta team without a bonefide shooter, or a good PG. HE will have some freedom to chuck it and to handle the ball some.

It is better. Overall, this team has better ball handling and better shooting. Plus, if Dampier signs, he gives the Hawks a bigger and stronger presence in the post than Theo Ratliff. Walker and Abdur-Rahim is a push, IMO. Walker is more athletic, a better ball handler, and a better passer. Abdur-Rahim is a better low post scorer but is a terrible ball handler.

Again people must not have ever watched the Hawks play because Terry Stotts wasn't a bad coach. The players didn't listen to Lon Kruger, not Terry Stotts. The facts are that the Hawks (w/ Dampier) are a better team than last year's beginning edition, because Reef, Theo and JT have been tremendous underachievers as Hawks. Simple as that.
They have guys who will at least play hard all the time and want to win, although Dampier would remain to be seen. However, with only a 3 year deal most likely given to him, he is going to have to keep playing hard, because he will never get another contract again, if he doesn't.
