why hate on melo?
Too many haters hating on Melo because the kids star is shining SO BRIGHT in the Olympics. There are five main groups of Melo haters-
1-Heat fans: They hate Melo because they know he is better than Wade, so they bring up dumb stuff like him sitting out in a blowout loss, or that AK47 situation among other things. Besides his vertical, they know he has nothing on Melo. They really can't be taken seriously. They also type like this!!!
2-Piston fans: They just won the championship, but some are still mad that Joe D selected that bust Darko over Melo. Their reasoning is that they already have Tayshaun Prince, why mess it up? Well if you got Clyde Drexler on your team, is that a good enough reason to pass up Michael Jordan? Ask John Nash over at Portland that one, I bet his face changes to this:
3-LeBron fans: Most of them disrespect the kid because he can't jump as high as LeBron, or that he was the real rookie of the year for leading his team to the playoffs in the West. They are mad that Melo is primarily a skill player who can likely play until he is 40 like Stockton, unlike Bron who with a knee injury would be out of the league faster than Lavar Postell jacks up shots. It's ridiculous.
4-Jazz fans: Carmelo was spanking their team, and the Nuggets took the season series from them without much trouble. They also took that 8th spot ending the Jazz's nearly 2 decades straight of making the playoffs. And then there was the whole AK47 debacle at all-star weekend. If you search for a board called "jazzfans" on the internet, you'll see some posters are so embittered that they even talk about wanting Iraqi suicide bombers to blow Melo to pieces. These guys are also jokes.
5-Status Quo: Then there are the people who compare him to Glenn Robinson, forgetting that GRob in his earlier career was a dominant scorer before he became the team cancer of today. These people tend to hate on Melo because he likes to have fun with the media and talk alot, they wish Melo would keep his mouth shut and just be a media robot like Tim Duncan or Kobe Bryant.
There are 99 Melo haters and I ain't one. But regardless these guys are the future of the NBA, why hate when you can congratulate?

I fit in this category, except I don't hate on how he speaks to the media. I just acknowledge the similarities between Melo's and GRob's game, and the two even have the same body shape. If Melo can continue to improve this means he'll be a hell of a player. Robinson could've been great but he just stopped working to improve his game.

If success in the olympics makes you a NBA superstar, why isnt the entire Italian team signed to massive multi-year contracts?
I dont care what he says to the media as much as his actions. For example, his refusing to play in a game earlier in the season. I know that he is a special player and could be a superstar in the league, but who are you to say that it is bad he has his haters? The eighties wouldnt have been as great as they were for the NBA if half of the fans didnt hate Bird and the other half didnt hate Magic. People hating Carmelo and LeBron are people that are good for the league.

I am not a fan of Melos off-court antics, in which he whines and *****es about everything. Whereas LeBron and Wade don't complain, don't act like they are the ****, and have good attitudes. Carmello acts like he's gods gift to earth, and that he is some young phenom that can throw little temper tantrums...

If he wanted to be the leader or team captain for the Nuggets, then he must act like an adult nowadays to make a wiser desicion based on that. Being a kid won't help.

You forgot:
6) People hate on Melo because some of his supporters go out of their way to alienate and degrade entire fan bases while coming off as complete *******es.
What exactly are you trying to gain here? Do you really think people who don't like Carmelo are going to give Melo more respect after you call them out and act like you're the only one who knows anything about basketball? If you want people to respect Melo, maybe you should make a post about him and some of the positive things he's done instead of degrading everyone else.

7) Some people hate Melo because he's simply just not that good. I don't see as much room for improvement in his game as their is with James, Wade, Bosh, Milicic. I said the same thing about glenn robinson.
Glen robinsons 1st year stats - 21.9 ppg, 6.4 rpg, 2.5 apg 1.44 spg, .28 bpg. 45% fg 32% 3pt 80% ft. 37 mpg
Carmelos 1st year stats - 21.0 ppg, 6.1 rpg, 2.8 apg, 1.18 spg, .5 bpg, 43% fg, 32% 3pt, 78% ft, 36.5 mpg
Try to deny that they put up similar stats. Try to deny that they have a similar style of play: want to be first option, can shoot the jumper or drive the lane, average passing, good offensive awareness, not the most intense defense but can anticipate well in the passing lanes, can finish around the hoop, not nearly quick enough for the 2, not nearly strong enough for the 4, but can play both if need be.
What aspect is he going to add to his game? What is he going to work on? Unless he totally revamps how he plays, which he won't, he's not going to be one of the top 5 players in the league. Even if he plays like that and puts up 27 ppg, 10 rpg, 4 apg i still would rather have kg, duncan, shaq, kobe, mcgrady, etc etc on my team over him, simply because his type of play isn't what you want from the best player on your team, and imo, he doesn't have the capability to become the #1 option on a title contender.
