honestly, none of these players will break it.
before andre miller, who was the last person to average 10+ assists a game? kidd in 99-00? he only did it twice, and no one has his passing ability in the game today.
andre miller was a fluke, too, as we've seen. averaging 10+ assists is very rare in this day and age. stockton's assists record will be untouchable for a long long time unless a truly special player comes along.

That drop off has a definite correlation with minutes played. He was #1 in ast/48 from 1985 to 2003.

That might be better than Cal's consecutive games streak.

If it weren't for his health, Tinsley had the potential. He has the record for number of assists in a game as a rookie (23).

there are certainly more unbreakable records in sports (cy young?), but it's certainly a tough one.

Perhaps, but teams like Sacramento and Dallas of recent years have been bigger offensive powerhouses than many of those Utah teams. When Stock was in his 12-15apg prime, the Jazz were averaging 102-105 points per game and giving up 100-102, definitely not insurmountable team numbers even in today's game and similar numbers to what we've been seeing of the past few years from Sacramento and Dallas.

The 500 wins seems more "unbreakable", but given the eras it doesn't seem as impressive to me, considering that Cy was pitching twice as many times a year as most pitchers these days for the bulk of his career. That's not to mention the amount of decisions he was getting due to normally pitching entire games..
But regardless, you're right. I actually don't think it is the most unbreakable career total record in sports, but all things considered it might be the most amazing.

biased, yet valid opinion:
brett favre's consecutive game streak at QB will be pretty damn tough to break. in fact, i don't know if anyone ever will.

Nice one. He's played through a bunch of injuries, but all things considered that is almost more of a "freak stat"; what I mean is, it's rare that a QB can go that long without suffering an injury that makes it impossible for him to play. IMO anyways.

favre played through most of a season with a broken thumb on his throwing hand.
honestly, what other QB would do that? and not miss a single game?
yeah, brett's a freak. i hope he never misses a game until he retires. that would be a hell of an accomplishment. well, even more so than it already is.

Stockton's achievement is staggering. Someone would have to average nearly 800 asts per year for 20 years to break it. Last year Marbury led the league with 719. Imho, Stockton's achievement is more impressive than Cy Young's. However for a contemporary record I think Wayne Gretzky's career point total is the most impressive. Someone would have to average 143 points for 20 years to break it. Last year the league leader had 94 points.
