Which one is fair for Rookies?
Is rookie contract fair?
Do you think Yao, Melo, Lebron, Wade and Amare should make $5M or less a year?

Well if they're gonna be great players they'll be making like 13mil/yr after their first contract anyway... They're still young, 5 mil is plenty enough already. And if you're Lebron James you've got 80mil income from the side.
Once in awhile guys like Arenas and Boozer comes along that makes 1st rounders look like they're gettting screwed, but those guys start off with no guarantee.

For Every Lebron and Yao there are 5 William Averys or Trajan Langdon...For the most part, guys go into the L to get a guarenteed 3-4 year contract-> so, shortening the length of the contract would not be good for the majority of the players..

I think it's fair. It's a lot better than having to give Shawn Bradley $50m+ deal as a rookie.

My thought:
Rookie contract should be shorter. After 2 years, they can become restricted free agent, like Boozer or Manu.
compare:
Amare: $3M a year
Boozer: $11M a year

You would think the smaller rookie contracts would give them incentive to work hard in the league to attain that huge contract, rather than guaranteeing them $50m when they may have no passion for the game.
Imagine Denver having to give Skita a $50m rookie deal. I like the current system, because a rookie has to pay his dues to get the huge contract. If they are a stud, they will be paid accordingly. If they are busts, they are still multi-millionaires.

I am thinking 4 yrs is too long, 2 yrs is better for Rookie.

Well the players would love that, but management wouldn't. Darko will make $13m over the next 3 years (3rd year TO); I don't think that's a bad deal for him.

3 years does not work for HS players. By the time most of them are any good, they are FAs.
Maybe they could use an age limit.
Contract lasts until the end of the season you turn 25 in.
(Or 24 if you prefer) With a minimum of 3 years. (For Araujo, who turned 24 already!
The NHL uses age based free agency...
