IMO I have always considered Shaq an underachiever. There is little reason he shouldn't have been able to average 40-20 in today's NBA and probably should own every MVP in the last 5 or 6 years. That is, if he had the off-season work ethic of someone like Karl Malone.
EDIT: Switched it up on me. Bender easily. Bender has been on the perennial breakout player list since he came into the league. Chandler was having a pretty good season last year before he got hurt. Chandler will never be KG like some people thought the would, but he could be like a healthy Camby, which is pretty good.

I'd take Chandler over Bender every time. Chandler's a young, athletic big that can swat and rebound with the best of them, and is learning to score efficiently. That's a very, very rare commodity in today's NBA. If he can get his injuries taken care of, I have little doubt he'll have the superior NBA career.
Bender is mostly a very tall and long guard/forward, he doesn't really have a defined position or ability. He's not particularly good at anything really.

It depends on if you want defense or offense. I'd take Bender easily on offense. He's completely dominated for stretches of games. For defense I'd take Chandler.

Well, Chandler was traded for Elton Brand, so a lot was expected out of him that he hasn't showed. Bender was traded for Antonio Davis, who, though decent, isn't anything anymore. A lot was expected out of Bender, also, but he wasn't to replace a 20/10 player with only 2 years in the league. Because Chandler was picked 3 picks ahead of Bender, and was traded for more, I'd consider him the bigger bust, but right now, I'd rather have him over Bender. They're both injury-prone, Bender is a tad better on offense, both good shotblockers, but I consider Chandler a much better post defender.

I've always thought that exact thing. I really do think Shaq has underachieved throughout his career, which is rather amazing considering his statistics and accomplishments are ridiculous as it is.
Still, though, he should certainly own more than a single MVP.

Bender is 23, two years older than Chandler, and Chandler looked to be breaking out last season as a 20 year old before he went down for most of the season.
If Chandler is only as good as Jonathan Bender in two years, then this will be a comparison, until then, Bender is the obvious answer.
