There's a difference in dominating the ball and PASSING and dominating the ball and SCORING... And when I say there's a difference, I mean a huge difference.

But that's not really dominating the ball. Stockton brang the ball up, and dished it off... He didn't really dominate the ball at all... Dominating the ball is something like Steve Francis did... Where he would dribble around for 15 seconds looking for a shot...

A good passer is a player who can make smart decisions, anticipate where a teammate is going to be, and makes that kind of pass consistantly. He also is aware where his teammates are on the floor so that he could kick out to them or pass in the lane. Its more of a court awareness that makes a player a good passer. The best passer is Jason Kidd, for big men, Toni Kukoc or Vlade Divac.

Stockton had posession of the ball a lot during games, but I don't like the term "dominated". It's not like he was a selfish jerk who was trying to get his stat sheet filled. He was asked to be the person to posess the ball. The offense flowed through him, and it was a system that worked well. I would consider the term "dominated" to go to someone who likes the ball in their hands all the time even though it isn't best for the success of the team.
So no, I don't think Stockton ever dominated the ball. Like SacKings used for an example, Steve Francis. Steve Francis could be considered dominating the ball. It wasn't always what was best for his team.

I agree with the Steve Francis comment.
Dribbling the ball down the court and then continue dribbling it while trying to free himself to shoot... thats dominating the ball.
Stockton, handled the ball, he was ready to "make" plays as soon as he is control of the ball. He made good decision on who to pass to and what kind of plays the team needed.
Nothing worse than a point guard dribbling your shotclock away while you and your teammates trying to get a good position only to be ignored because your pg wants to score 30 that night.....speaking from experience.

A good passer puts the receiver in a position to score. That can be on the perimeter, in the post, anywhere in between, and in transition.
It is definitely not statistical. Great passes often don't end up as scores because the receiver couldn't finish.
