Melo promises playoffs
http://www.rockymountainnews.com/drm...318154,00.html
Quote:
"We still got 77 games plus the playoffs," forward Carmelo Anthony said after Denver's 108-88 loss to the Seattle SuperSonics on Tuesday night. "We will make the playoffs this year."
Anthony delivered a similar guarantee as a rookie last season, but it came in a much different context.
At the time, the Nuggets were in the thick of the playoff chase and playing well enough to give his bark some bite.
This time, Denver has taken up residence at the bottom of the Northwest Division standings after four double-digit losses.

Let's see, for Denver to get into the playoffs, they'll have to be better than at least one of the following teams:
Minnesota
San Antonio
Houston
LA Lakers
Utah
Phoenix
Sacramento
Dallas
Not to mention that Seattle, Portland, and yes even the Clippers are doing pretty well too... I'm not counting Denver out, but with the way Utah and Phoenix has stepped out so far I just can't see Denver moving pass any of the above 8 teams right now. Melo should just concentrate on improving his own play day by day instead of making a remark like this 5 games into the season...

Didnt he also promise a gold medal? Gilbert Arenas promised playoffs last year too. Everyone is making promises or guarantees...
It just isnt the same as when Namath did it, its so cliche now.

from the way they talk in denver they're looking for a new coach to turn their fortunes around. thing is they arent that good. they really miss voshon lenard and to a lesser degree jon barry. carmelo can talk all he wants but he isnt playing up to his rookie level(dont care about stats) and they seem very disinterested there.

That bench is bad in Denver.
At this point, it's hard to imagine Denver being better than Phoenix and Utah.

Marshmellow's "superfluous" self-confidence indicates to me that he must be taking Valtrax. Either that or I gotta have whatever he's smoking.

I'd participate in the thread, but we all know its going to turn into, "Well if this wasn't Carmelo who said this, but LeBron, everyone would be riding his jock!"
