Worse Incident: Oncourt rush or melee?

What would be the bigger tragedy: Injuries suffered from a celebratory rushing of the court or this or any other melee/riot?

Somebody might get trampled one day. Damn that'd be sad.

If I recall, I think a student from Stanford was trampled to death in a celebratory rushing of the court... After they won a basketball game... But I'm not 100% on that...

Incorrect, although Matt Lottich was almost smothered to death, following his GW shot over Salim Stoudamire of Arizona at the buzzer. Tiger Woods had to get out of the way as well. The fans rushed the players like they had lost their minds.

The game you're thinking of, is the HS game in Arizona, where the fans stormed the court, after the guy made a GW shot and some of the fans picked him up so hard and fast, that his body got whiplash and now he is paralyzed. Scholarship gone, ability to walk gone, because fans can't stay in their seats.

Storming the court, should be banned. It's dangerous.

People have been killed rushing the field at football games. I forget where it was and it was a number of years ago but I believe it had something to do with some being smothered against a concrete barricade.

A rush is definately more dangerous than melees like happened in Detroit.

But if a player were to actually kill a fan during one of these melees it would be an infinitely bigger deal than a fan being trampled to death.

Rushing the court/field is the worst thing in sports period. It happens so often, and it has potential for nothing but bad things to happen. What's terrible is during football games, people attack the goal post and go to take them down not thinking of the ramifications.

Rushing football games is stupid but not extremley dangerous unless some douche decides to rip the goal post down.

Rushing in a smaller, enclosed space like a basketball court is so dam stupid. It doesnt give the players anywhere to run away to.

See the thing about rushing football games is, the drunken college kids, try to taunt the players like the Nebraska-Missouri game when the fan got jacked by the Cornhusker player.

Key answer, "He shouldn't been out there."

Then in the UGA-Florida basketball game last year in Athens, a UGA fan punched Matt Walsh in his shoulder as he stormed the court. No excuse for that.

And after Charlotte upset Lousville, Rick Pitino and Bobby Lutz were almost trampled by the stampeding students. Someone is going to die from it and then it won't be fun anymore. Should stop it before it happens.

Wow. Some scary stories. I don't think I would ever get killed if a crowd rushed and I tripped though cause I'd get up and just take a very hyper spaz to get everyone off me and away from me.

The worst trampling story I can think of is not athletics related. At a who concert in Cincinnati 11 people were killed. The riot in Detroit could have been much worse by the way. Had there been more people in the venue it could conceivably have caused a trampling incident of it's own.
