Rip and JJ
Will either of these guy make the all star team on their current team?
I think both of these guys have all star talent but are team first type players.
What are you guys opinion?

Re: Rip and JJ
I doubt Rip will be an allstar, it's just too many better guards in the East. And who's JJ?

I think he's referring to Joe Johnson. I doubt the other well known JJ, Jim Jackson, could make the All Star team anymore.

Re: Rip and JJ
Are you kidding? Joe Johnson on the all-star team? He's a pretty solid shooter but that's it. He's one dimensional player. And he's still what, the fourth option on his team? And that's only because Nash prefers to pass rather than shoot the lights out.
Rip will never get in the all-star based purely on fan votes because of his lack of highlight material and split votes with Chauncey. But i think him getting voted in by the board is a real possibility. There are a lot of great guards in the east, but Rip is one of the best up there in the east. The guards voted in this year were Lebron, AI, Wade and Arenas. The first three picks are locks. in my biased opinion, Rip should have taken the fourth spot instead of Arenas, but Arenas also was playing out of his mind at the time so i can't argue with that.
Next year, if the level of guards remains practically the same, who else is going to challenge Arenas for that fourth spot? Francis? I doubt it, not in the direction he's been going. Gordon? They aren't going to put an inconsistent bench player up there. As of NOW, there are no other real candidates. So unless other guards really step up their play, the only guards i see voted in fourth place after the big three are Billups, Hamilton or Arenas. Rest of the great guards are in the west.

This is the same Joe Johnson which was picked by most of the BBB.net posters over people like Ray Allen and Michael Redd.

Re: Rip and JJ
JJ doesn't get to show what all he can do because Nash dominates the ball in Phoenix. He really is a great all around player.

Your right i havent watched many suns games this year.
But from what i've seen of suns games, joe johnson has appeared to be that kind of player. This is taking into account his stats as well. I could be wrong since I can't just judge from a huge selection of his games that like some of you guys can, but maybe it's just because he doesn't get as many opportunities as the other options on his team.
Do you think he should be an all-star?

I think it is the team and the sample you took from. Johnson doesn't appear to be one dimensional at all to me. I believe he has actually played PG in very limited stretches for Phoenix this year and I think back in the days in Boston he played some PG ... if not during the season, then at least during the summer/preaseason.
From what I have seen, he is pretty much good at everything but not outstanding at anything.

This is the problem here. He is good at everything but not great. If you separate his abaility into few parts.
1) There is no freaking way he can lead a team if he is the first option due to he likes to play with the ball like James or T-mac.
2) Say the team all all the peice but missing a dominanting scorer, will Joe Johnson be the guy? No pick and roll, no here and there. You score a point for me in designated arear, FREAKING SUFFER FOR SURE!
3) Okay, good playmaker eh? Johnson, run the team for me, no here and there passes. Can he run liek Jason Kidd? And few point guards like Nash, Marbury or other losers? Freaking no.
4) Fine, he is a good/great defensive player, but you dont want to pay a guy who everyone thinks he worths close to MAX for defensive purposes!
5) His rebounding ability? at 6 per game? Overrated! I always think guards's rebounding numbers are always at the expense at their big men's. The only true rebounding force you want is guys who can grab rebounds through traffic and against big men down the paint. Not those long range missing jumpers and it's the matter of who wants to go pad their stats for rebounding. That's why Vince Carter rebounding numbers is underrated. If u want Carter carefully, he wouldnt fight for a easy rebound if his teammates were besides him. I see at least he can grab 1.5 rebounds more per game if he decided to pad his stats like some other swingmans in the game today!
6) HKF, you always say I am jealous of Joe because he forced Penny out. Yeah right, watch how he is a stats padder in near future but had no real impact on the game unlike Penny!

Stat padder? Wow harsh words. Why can't he just be a decent player?
