NBA teams send a very clear message with 2005 NBA Draft
The NBAPA might have saved a lot of players from themselves with the new CBA. The new age limit will keep six years worth of Euros and HSers from embarassing themselves with bad advice. Also, it seems teams also sent the message that character matters. A host of talented malcontents went undrafted (Sean Banks, Gilchrist) and players who showed little love or intensity for the game (Taft, Randolph Morris) fell horribly. The Euro blank check is finished also, NBA scouts are overseas in strength now, so you had better be able to play.
I hope players, families and agents were paying attention. You had better be on your best behavior in college or you will more than likely give up the guaranteed money that comes with being a 1st round pick.

Well said.
Despite the likes of Vazquez and Korolev getting picked a bit too early, i.e. in front of Green and Granger, promises are purely to blame in that situation... other than that, the pendulum has clearly swung back to American talent, or should I say, proven talent (as to include the likes of Linas Kleiza).
My 10 favourite players: 1. Andrew Bogut 2. Leandro Barbosa 3. Dwight Howard 4. Brandon Roy 5. Ray Allen 6. Andrea Bargnani 7. Kevin Garnett 8. Steve Nash 9. Michael Redd 10. Deron Williams

Great post Memphis because that is the reason that Green fell as he did

WTF has Linas Kleiza ever proven?
I just do not get this guy.

Re: NBA teams send a very clear message with 2005 NBA Draft
Linus has been stating for a week or more that Portland had promised him they were taking him. Then he gets shipped off to Denver... guess who owns the Nuggets? Yup, Stan Kronke! Kronke is a big Mizzou guy and has had his son on the Mizzou team up until last season. Seems pretty clear why Kleiza was slected in the first round even if he didn't deserve it.

I think Gilchrist will land on his feet and should have a chip on his shoulder. Personally I felt Gilchrist falling out of the draft was collusion.

I know plenty of old timers and HOFer's that claimed defense in the late 90's and early 2000's weren't as good as the 80's. Wilt once said he'd average 70 ppg in the modern-day NBA because defenses were so much worse. Pippen once said KG was a stats guy who disappears down the stretch of games. Bill Walton once said Rasho was a better interior defender than Tim Duncan because Tim Duncan was on the bench at the time. Barkley once said Argentina was located north of the Indian ocean.

Intangibles
in*tan*gi*bles (greek meaning: plays hard every night) - 1. word used to describe marginally talented and productive basketball players. 2. Last resort when explaining the "value" of said marginally talented and productive player. 3. Shane Battier
Love the Marc Jackson-Jeff Van Gundy combo... "I've played with guys like Rodmonavic; good enough to keep both teams in the game."~ Jackson during gm 5 commenting as Rodmonavic scores at one end and gives up another layup.
Re: NBA teams send a very clear message with 2005 NBA Draft
David Wesley is a nice character guy, Memphis.
Do you think Jerry West would like swap him for Jason Williams....he's a headcase.

It sure felt like collusion to me.

Nah, I think we can get more for J Will than Wesley.
The point isn't that guys with character issues won't be taken but those issues will hurt you more than usual. I don't think McCants' issues are off the court/criminal behavior type stuff. HHe is also a proven talent on the floor. You can't question his ability to play the game at the NBA level.

OK what about Wesley and James/Sura for J-Will...hell, what does it take..I want him in houston
As for McCants, he was known to have bad attitude in Carolina...none off the court though
