Dollar So the Heat want to win a championship, but don't want to pay luxury tax?

Anyone else find this to be a bizarre situation? Reportedly the Heat aren't willing to offer the whole MLE to a player, because it would put them over the luxury tax limit.

Can they win a championship while being so tight with the wallet?

So I take it Shaq isn't getting his contract extension? That would almost certainly put them over the cap in the future.

It is possible to win without hitting the luxury cap but Miami will be over that cap in the future. Shaq will be making as much as some small countries lol

Manu was a FA last year, he had already started making big money... well not really big money compared to what other swingmen are getting this year.

There's a difference, it wasn't as if San Antonio was afraid of the luxury tax. For the most part they don't lock up players who aren't core players long term to bad deals. That's why there's so much roster turnover down there.

Re: So the Heat want to win a championship, but don't want to pay luxury tax?

I really don't see what sort of moves are available which would have put them over the top.Dalembert for the MAX?35 million for a guy to back up Shaq. What they need are roleplayers who are willing to take a subordinate role.It may well be possible to find these guys without paying some sort of outrageous contract. At any rate they don't have much room to maneuver until they work out Shaq's extension and in the future they are going to have to resign DWade.

Really the only team they have to worry about is Detroit and they are competitive with the Pistons right now.If they get into the Finals they will have a fair shot at the Western COnference champ, especially if SHaq is actually healthy and in better playing shape than he was in last season's playoffs.
