But a player who handles the ball more also supposedly have more assists. Francis's assist total is very very low considering how much he has the ball in his hand. He is supposed to be a POINT GUARD as well. It just shows that either he doesn't pass much or his passing skills are terrible.

If turnovers don't matter, neither should steals. OF COURSE turnovers matter. Don't be ridiculous.

Francis has an assist to turnover ratio of 1.47 which is horrible for a point guard.

Not only is it horrible for a PG (it's actually last among players playing significant minutes, and only Larry Hughes - a SG playing PG is even close), Francis AST/TO ratio actually is below average for a SG. ESPN.com rates him 19th among SG (out of 31 qualified) in AST/TO ratio. There's a reason why Houston's on the fast track to miss the playoffs - their PG is a poor distributor for a SG, their SG (Mobley) is 27th of 31 in AST/TO at his position, and their third guard (Moochie) is 34th as a PG in AST/TO. Their backcourt rotation of Francis, Mobley, and Norris has a cumulative AST/TO of 1.53 - that's absolutely terrible for the team's supposed distributors.

Totally agree, I am a Rockets fan and I think Francis is a great player, but he's still far to be a real good PG; more than 4 turnovers a game is unacceptable for a PG of a team that wants to be on the top, specially if you only give 6 assists per game.

Marbury handles the ball as much as any other PG you can name and he is not averaging as many turnovers as Francis. But he also averages more assists. No excuses for Francis.

Amare turns over the ball mostly because he still has to learn when it is better to pass the ball out of a double-team instead of attacking both defenders. He is showing improvement there.

He is also getting more minutes than most rookies and has to play against Duncan, Webber, Garnett, Brand etc on a regular basis in the West.

Francis only passes the ball 6 times a game. That's when he gets his assists.

On top of that Francis AST/TO ratio drops to 1.25 in the final 2 minutes of games decided by 6 points or less
