Also if you think that performance is amazing consider that Gervin had 33 points in one quarter and 53 in the first half to "only" finish with 63 to edge out Thompson for the scoring title even tho Thompson had 73 points. So you see even a player who scored as much points as Kobe in one half still ended up short of even 70. Could have is all speculation.

Yea, that was amazing. Too bad Thompson had a screwed up life off the court, he was an amazing athlete. Didn't Jordan say that Thompson was the guy he tried to be like? Anyway, to get back on track, I think Kobe would've ended up with a shade over 70 points in the Memphis game, I think he had 18, 18, 20 in the first 3 quarters respectively. All he'd need is 14 in the 4th and he would've had 70. Kobe's the only guy that I could realistically see scoring 70+ in a game (well, Tmac might be able to do it, his game against the Bulls was impressive), but nobody will ever come anywhere close to Wilt's record. That's one of the few genuinely "unbreakable" records in sports. Dimaggio's 56 game hit streak is another. These should be remembered respectively and brought up for historical purposes, not to be degraded.

No records last forever.

Look at past "unbreakable" records

Bob Beamon's long jump record : broken twice in one night

Lou Gerhig's longest game streak

Babe Ruth's 61 homeruns.

In time all of these records will fall. However, Wilt's may be one of the longest lasting, 'cause teams barely score 100 points in a game now. But eventually, it'll fall like all the others.

Except Glen Hall's consecutive games started as a goalie streak.

Good point about players tiring by the end of a game, Doc. That is another incredible thing about Wilt. I believe there was one year in his career (it may even have been the same year he set this record) where he only missed two minutes or something the whole year! Incredible.

I seriously doubt anyone will ever break Wilt's 100 points record, or a few of his other records (50.4 ppg, a couple of his rebounds records, etc.) for a couple of reasons. One, I don't believe anybody will ever come along as physically gifted as Wilt was. Although if you wait long enough, I guess it's a very good chance it will. Even so, the game's changed now, that even Wilt himself wouldn't be able to drop 100 in today's game most likely. Dimaggio's 56 game hit streak could end, but I doubt it will be anytime soon. But I called Wilt's 100 point game unbreakable, because I don't think it will ever be broken. I just don't see how it could be, unless the game changes to a defense-less score-fest.
