Re: wilt scoring 100
Don't be so sure about that. Even great players and scorers like the Big O and Elgin Baylor never came close to that. Not even in the high scoring 80's did a player come close to that. The closest any player came was David Thompson who had 73 points. Wilt was a force and anybody who has ever watched footage of him play knew he was something rare and special. Take Hakeem and mix it with Shaq and that is Wilt. He was clearly the most athletic big man ever even way ahead of KG. Wilt could have scored at least 32-35 ppg and grab 13-15 rpg in today's league in his prime. Truth is that there are many rules today that benefit big men especially strong big men such as that circle in the paint. No one can stop Wilt and with that circle he could have went to the line 10 more times than he originally did.

Great thread. Even better than your "Kobe sucks, Vinsanity rules hehehehe" thread.

Still far from 100 if my count is corect...29 shy and 30 shy of breaking the record. Robinson would need another quarter to maybe...and that is maybe accomplishment that. Wilt's 100 was incredible. 73 was the closest by another player than Wilt (David Thompson). Wilt reached 78 but that was as far as his next closest 100 game comes.

I think denying Wilt's acomplishment of making 100 points in a single game is plain ridiculous, whether the rules were different or not, whether the players were different or not, doesn't matter, 100 points in a game is plain amazing.

Great post Vinsanity, extremely well argued. Look, Wilt is the most incredible athlete the NBA's ever seen, and there is no one who has ever played that could've gotten 100 points. There were plenty of other legends back then, they could never even come close. You list KG, who's career high is what, 41? lol, yea, he's gonna drop 100 on somebody. Shaq can't touch Wilt, and Duncan is great, but come on, no way would he ever be able to put up 100 points. If Wilt played in today's game he still would've averaged probably close to 40 ppg in his prime (honestly, who would stop him) and pull down somewhere inbetween 15-23 rpg. You're diminishing one of the most impressive athletic accomplishments of all-time for no apparent reason.

If there wasn't such a thing as class and respect, MJ could have dropped 100 on 4 or 5 occasions.

When exactly were these occasions. I seriously doubt Jordan could ever come close to 100 in any era in basketball.

I agree. To assume that he could have scored 100 points, not only once but a few times but he never even reached 70 sounds like a little exagerated to me.

That will probably never happen. Jordan might have averaged 40 ppg in those days but drop 100. No way. Not even Wilt was able to come close to doing that again. Don't people know that the second highest scoring game in NBA history is 78 by Wilt? That is STILL 22 points away from 100!!!! Jordan might have scored 70-75 points in one game MAX without overtime in those days. Wilt scored 100 WITHOUT overtime. Saying this is taking away from Wilt's greatness. MJ is without a doubt the most complete scorer EVER, Wilt is simply the MOST DOMINATING...nobody can stop him, not even crybaby Shaq...Shaq would just foul out.

Kobe Bryant could have made 80 againt Denver in that game where he scored about 56 points in 31 minutes. Don't know why he didn't used that opportunity to make history.

He only had 52 in that game I believe. Last year he had 56 in 33 minutes against Memphis I think. Both those times it looked like 70 was in the cards, but Phil had him sit out. However, I doubt it would've been an 80 point night, even 70 would've been tough. And it would still be very far from 100.
