Remember this comparison?
Amare vs. Brand? Yeah, some of us got laughed at for thinking Elton Brand would be better than Amare last season, but check this out:
Brand (05/06) - 25.5 PPG - 11.1 RPG - 2.6 AST - 2.5 BLK - 53.6 FG% - 39.7 MPG - 29.3 PER
Amare (04/05) - 26.0 PPG - 8.9 RPG - 1.6 AST - 1.6 BLK - 55.9 FG% - 36.1 MPG - 26.6 PER

Re: Remember this comparison?
Offensively, they are a wash when comparing these two seasons. Amare may be more dominant but Elton Brand is the only player that can put up 25+ points per game without having a play run for him, in my opinion. Defensively is where Brand shows greater talent and ability over Amare. Brand is a great post defender and though he is limited in height, is one of the best blockers in the NBA.

Good job, Koko for bringing this up!
I have always liked Elton, and it's about time that he gets credit for what he has been doing this season. Though props to Sam as well.

The only thing I would add is in my opinion Brand is having a career year while Amare's 04-05 season will prove to be an average season for him.

I believe that this site has been overcompensating for not giving him enough credit previously. The man deserves the overcompensation from everybody though, he's a hell of a player and he finally has the cast to really show what he can do. But one thing is for sure, he's been getting credit alllll season.

Re: Remember this comparison?
Yes, Brand's been playing insane basketball this year. Seems like Cassell's veteran play and leadership really helped him.
This just proves you how winning is the most important thing in basketball.

Good point. It could be true.
People tend to get a little crazy and lose some perspective when someone is having a career year!

Re: Remember this comparison?
Brand isn't especially old or anything, it's not hard to believe at all that he could repeat this or improve even over the next 3 or so years.
Most stars in the NBA have a prime of about 3-4 years in them.

Re: Remember this comparison?
Someone explain how this is a career year for Elton? Because I just don't see it. He's averaging just career highs so far in points, fouls and FG%. If people would have actually watched Elton play, he has been like this year in and year out and he's having a career year just because he has a veteran PG to help lead the team?
Elton is a much better player then Amare, even during Amare's CAREER year.
I'd take someone who can run(he's showing it this year)AND play half court then someone who can mainly just run. I'd much rather have someone who plays lockdown Defense, as opposed to someone who has a block here and there. Someone who's been doing it his entire career, over someone who had one year.
