Phoenix/Indiana DEEP in Trade talks

Peter Vescey reported yesterday that the Phoenix Suns are the latest team involved in the Ron Artest Sweepstakes...

Phoenix has everything that indiana wants in a trade for Artest in Young talent, and draft picks.

Early specualtions around phoenix is a trade that would follow along these lines:

Suns Trade: Raja Bell. 12.5 PPG, 3 RPG 3 APG
Leandro Barbosa. 14 PPG, 2.5 RPG, 2 APG
2006 1st RD Pick (Bosten/L.A. Pick, whoever is lower)

Suns Recieve: Ron Artest.

Why it works:

For Ron: Ron Artest needs to be on a contending team with vertern leadership, and with the suns he gets both. He also gets steve nash to deliever the ball, and gets the freedom to shoot as he pleases, which is exactly what he wants.

For Indiana: They get a solid defender is bell, a GREAT yound talented PG in Barbosa, and a pick in this years draft in the mid-teens. They add depth, and GREAT character to the team, and improve as a team, rather than taking a step back. They get exactly what they wanted out of the trade, while getting rid of a cancer.

For Phoenix: The reason it works for phoenix is simple. Adding artest will give the the BEST starting lineup in the league, while not having to sacrifice too much of their depth.

PG: Nash
SG: Artest
SF: Marion
PF: Amare
C:Thomas

With Diaw, House, Jones, and Grant coming off the bench, the suns would be loaded, with four legit All Stars. they would be right up there with S.A., and Detroit as the three elite teams in the league....

Re: Phoenix/Indiana DEEP in Trade talks

I would do that in a second. Imagine playoff time: Nash, Diaw, Artest, Marion, Stoudamire. I don't know if that would be the starting 5, but ****, that team could definately contend with the Spurs.

Re: Phoenix/Indiana DEEP in Trade talks

Artest doesnt fit in the run and gun system. He isnt the fastest wing out there, im not sure about his stamina, and he doesnt have much of an outside shot. He takes bad shots and hes not a good passer, definitely not a good fit for Phoenix. Plus, why the hell would Indy want Barbosa? Theyve got Tinsley, Johnson and Jasikevicius. And last time I checked, Raja last season was supposed to be a bench player for a non playoff team.

and like the Pacers are DROOLING over Devean George

Barbosa is a stud.. he is more of a shooting guard than a PG, and gives the pacers flexibility in the back court.

Raja Bell is a good defender, that can still hit the three, and has done a good job starting for a team with the fourht best record in the league!

Finally about artest... He is surprisingly athletic, AND he shoots 46% from the field. Phoenix has PLENTLY of three point shooters, so he won't have to be shooting the three, he will just have to hit the open jumpers he will get by from Steve Nash, and doubles on Amare... his Shooting % would only go up...not to mention the defense of the suns would improve dramatically as well...So your wrong my friend, He would be a GREAT fit for the Phoenix Suns....

Re: Phoenix/Indiana DEEP in Trade talks

Barbosa does nothing for Indy. If the Pacers wanted an undersized two who isn't much more special than the dozens of others in the league, they'd look down the bench at Fred Jones. Using terms like "great" and "stud" when describing Leandro Barbosa is a little silly.

And it's Vescey. The guy can't even spell players' names right.

Re: Phoenix/Indiana DEEP in Trade talks

First time reading this. I hardly view this forum. Just not on my mind to do so. But I don't know I'm skeptical about it and also undecided on whether we should do it if it's true. Not sure if it will help our chemistry out either. Although it didn't hurt it when we added these new guys as everyone seemed to think. Maybe if it gets reported elsewhere I'll start to believe it.

Barbosa may not be great or a stud though but he's played alot better than he has in the past. Especially, defensively. Just has had bad luck with Ginobli flopping on his knee, and then the other incident, I think he went knee to knee with someone else right when he came back. He was avging 18 pts a game around first injury.

While I do agree Vescey is a bit unreliable, this trade seems to make the most sense for indiana of all the realistic Trade proposals Ive heard. It sounds a HELL of a lot better than george, or Nene...IMO

And Barbosa when comparing barbosa to jones, there is a pretty big difference

Barbosa: 6'3 14 PPG, 53% FG, 39% 3FG, - with freakishly long arms

Jones: 6'2. 7 PPG, 42% FG, 32% 3FG,

barbosa is also three years younger, and a much higher potential....

he is good now, and only 22, he is going to get a LOT BETTER....

I heard Indiana fans suggesting that trade. It's better than anything I have heard before from their perspective.

Might not like Vecsey but he has a good record with Suns rumors in the past.

Haha. Coming from the guy who has 4000 posts after a week being on this board, 2000 of the posts being random stupid posts, and the other 2000 posts either hating on Kobe or sucking Iversons popsicle stick
