Re: Mavs front office....show some damn love!
They're a very good team, but for some reason, every year, they lack the ability to get defensive stops. I don't know if it's the coaching, Dirk not instilling a defensive mindset, or if they simply don't have the right players necessary to play playoff defense for 48 minutes (I'm thinking it's the latter), but they just don't seem to get it together when it matters (like the Braves, yes).

They wouldn't need to spend money on crap like Dampier when they have a guy named Dirk "the big man that never was". I really dislike his game. You're not 6'6 man you're 7 freakin feet, play from the inside out and you might have won a title already.

Re: Mavs front office....show some damn love!
actually, can't give their scouts THAT much credit.... every team passed on Marquis Daniels, even Dallas with their 2nd round pick.
And Dallas thought Pavel Podkozine was gonna be a decent player and went trading for him.....

There's nothing wrong with the Spurs and the Pistons comment. Look at Ginoblii for example, dude exaggerates the flops to the extreme, it almost seems like he got hit by a bus or getting shot by a shotgun. And look at Bowen as well, dude undercuts and he doesn't get called for a fragrant.

I hate the way ginobili and bowen play too. But the way he lumped the pistons in means he doesn't really care if they deserve the fouls called against them or not, he just wants his agenda pushed through. What he apparently doesnt realize is the mavs try to play a turnover generating defense where they will get more reacharounds and touch fouls called against them. Pistons and spurs try to make you take a bad shot with a few seconds left.

Re: Mavs front office....show some damn love!
Picking up Daniels and Howard saved this franchise. Two great, great scouting finds. Of course, I don't know why Howard fell the way he did on draft day, but still, getting him was a great call. Management has kept this team at the top of the standings, but they still don't have the inside presence to top the big boys. The Dampier signing was just god awful. They've got to get lucky in the draft w/ a big. To their credit, they realize this and have drafted several projects w/ potential, and signed Diop (who I put in that category). If one of those guys pans out as a physical presence on the interior, then this team will be legit. But until then, the guys on TNT are dead on.

haha, i don't watch baseball but i've heard that about the Braves. good comparison. It's true, the Mavs are good every year. You can expect them to win 50 games every year, but at the same time we all pencil them in for a 2nd round loss.

Cuban and Nelson definetly deserve some credit. They not only picked up a franchise down in the dumps like Dallas, and transformed it into one of the most successful and consistently winningest franchises in the NBA.
They definetly deserve respect.

Well to be fair, that was after Stern changed the league policy on carrying weapons and KG could no longer distract Zach with his pump, uzi and couple M-16s.

Re: Mavs front office....show some damn love!
They have definitely made some moves over the past few years to put themselves in great shape for the future, namely drafting Josh Howard, signing Marquis Daniels, and trading for Devin Harris (And Stackhouse). Getting Jason Terry for Antoine Walker was a terrific move as well. Plus they added Diop and Dampier to soldifiy the Center position. Those two don't combine for a great Center duo, but better than anything they had previously. And, of course, their best move in making Avery Johnson as their coach.

Re: Mavs front office....show some damn love!
is Avery really the defensive coach he's made out to be though? their defense looks the same to me. same "i can't wait to get on offense" look on their face.
