Kobe now is number 6 since his team record is not that... but if the lakers make the playoff.... that's another story...Kobe has not been off the charts lately.. he is just simply scoring more because he's taking more shots...

Actually i would put Lebron Number 1....
1- Lebron
2-Nash
3-Chauncey
4- Dirk
5- Vince

Re: MVP - Kobe
Lakers have to become more consistent. We need more out of the other players in order for Kobe to become an MVP. A lot of MVP's win because their team has a good record and other players helped them get this good record. Nobody can do it himself.
Kobe most likely won't score 40+ a game and the Lakers start winning most nights. In a Kobe homers dream this would be the case. But on the other hand, I've seen stranger things. If anyone can do it, Kobe is the guy.

1- Nash (does not have Amare)
2- Lebron (Just awsome)
3- Kobe (he will make the playoffs)
4- Chauncey (only if they win 69 games)
5- Dirk (Leading his team too)
6- Vince (would be higher than Dirk but Mavs have a way better record and Dirk is having another career year)

Didn't Jordan win it in 87 or something when he was the only one scoring?

Re: MVP - Kobe
In my opinion Kobe will win the MVP if no player from the top teams seperates himself in the voting. We have to remember much of the MVP vote has to do with media hype and a player clearly playing above his peers. In my opinion Kobe, LeBron, Billups, Nash, AI and Elton Brand are the only players in the league doing this on a consistent basis.
As of today here is where the stand.
1. Chauncy Billups
Most likely. but it depends on how people perceive his influence on the overall team success. I think he will win it if the team comes close to or beating the 95'-96' Bulls record. It also helps his team will most likely be in the finals.
2. LeBron James
Due to media hype and exposure, yes, but it depends on his teams success the rest of the season and down the stretch. This is the guy Stern and the media want to win it for obvious reasons.
3. Kobe Bryant
Possible due to the numbers he is putting up, if he can get the Lakers to 45-50 wins I say he will win it. The NBA needs Kobe and the Lakers to be good for overall success of the league, so if Kobe carries this team to 45-50 wins, the media would be all over it, giving Kobe the MVP. I will say though it is doubtful Kobe will lead this team to 45-50 wins while playing at this level without burning out.
4. Steve Nash
No due to politics! The NBA doesn't give 2 MVP trophies to guys like this. No offense to Nash.
5. Elton Brand
No, the NBA wouldn't give the MVP trophy to an LA Clipper. Sorry Elton.
6. Allen Iverson
Possibly but doubtful, AI is playing great, but he is getting overlooked by Kobe performances. Also, now that AI stays out of the limelight the media sort of has forgotten about him.

how do you know he'll make the playoffs? My list was stating who are the runners for MVPs currently... and as good as Kobe is playing... his team needs to have a better record.. now if he makes the playoff as i said that's a nother story....i doubt they'll make the playoffs.. that's just my opinion....if in order for the lakers to win.. kobe has to come out with 45+pts everygame.. that just wont happen....

Re: MVP - Kobe
MVPs don't play on 8th seeds.
1) Nash
2) LeBron
3) Nowitzki
Those are my Top 3 choices. It's really a toss-up after that with AI, Kobe, TD, Billups, VC etc.

Re: MVP - Kobe
MVPs lead their teams to the near top of their conference and step up when they need to. Granted it's only been 3 games, but LeBron is stepping up big time with Hughes out. 34, 9, and 7 on 56% shooting. That's the sign of an MVP. Now can he keep it up? Only time will tell, thus it's way too early to give the MVP to anyone. But I would say LeBron and Nash are the frontrunners.
