Nash is the same player he was in DAllas
Everyone is all on Nash's jock now, but he is the same player he was back then. The guy never got love for being the top PG then, but now everyone is giving him extra amounts of love.
The reason Nash's STATS are so good is because of the system. The system and style of play has made Nash standout. He was always this good.
Nash might have been the best PG in the game back then, but no one talked about it. It was always Jason Kidd, Marbury, and others. People act like Nash has suddenly become better than John Stockton. As good as he is, he has been this good for 5 years. Thats basically all I wanted to say.
Also, give more love to the system. Put Ridnour with this coach and he would come close to Steve Nash. The system deserves a lot of credit for his success.

Re: Nash is the same player he was in DAllas
As I said in a simliar thread today. I think it's just easy to dismiss we what we do or how we play by saying it's the system. Everything is a part of why. Not just one thing. I think the players are better than some give credit for too. Nash as well.
lol Luke Ridnour wouldn't being doing half of what Nash is doing. People want to say Luke is like him, sure he has flashes of it but no way.

Re: Nash is the same player he was in DAllas
I've been saying this forever now. Players don't come to Phoenix and get better because of Nash, they come there and get better because of D'Antoni, and even Nash wasn't an exception to that. Mike D'Antoni is easily the best offensive coach in the game, and he has put together an amazing system for the Suns. They don't play that way because of Nash, they play that way because of D'Antoni. That much is obvious, in my opinion.

I don't think I'd say Nash was always this good, rather he always had the potential to have this kind of impact. Sure, he's in a system that perfectly complements his style of play, but he's also the reason that system works as well as it does. It goes both ways.

The reason he was never called better than Jason Kidd until last year is that he wasn't better than Jason Kidd until last year. Even Marbury experienced a huge dropoff last year.

Re: Nash is the same player he was in DAllas
Steve Nash is not the same player he was in Dallas. Anyone who has watched him at both places can see the improvement. He has improved his game and his toughness. Plus, while he was in Dallas, he was really underrated. People routinely rated Baron Davis and Steve Francis above him. Yes D'Antoni helps because he has basically given the ball to Nash and said "run my team" like Sloan did with Stockton. But that doesn't mean what Nash is doing is some kind of parlor trick.

Re: Nash is the same player he was in DAllas
Every offensive mastermind(Ronaldinho, Payton Manning, Wayne Gretzky, Steve Nash) is PART OF A SYSTEM. That's why it's called a team sport. You can only look as good as the players or the coaching around you. And I don't buy into the whole "If X player was there he'd be doing the same thing". That's just envy. Why is that Baron Davis isn't having as much sucess as what was expected early in the season. I mean he has a pretty good supporting cast(slasher=Richardson/Pietrus, shooters=Dunleavy, Murphy, Zarko, post presence=Diogu). Golden State is trying the hardest to copy Phoenix YET for sum rason they can't achieve that level.
As for Nash's play. There was a quote early in Nash's career where Jordan said that he saw something about him. Myself I started seeing flashes around 99(pre-olympics in Winnipeg). Then he pretty much broke out in 2000-2001. Above all I've shared an admiration for him because he's stayed quite humble, even while being at the top.

So if that's the case, why do MVP voters routinely write off guys like Kevin Garnett, Kobe Bryant, Tracy McGrady, LeBron James or anyone who is shouldering a huge load on mediocre teams?

Re: Nash is the same player he was in DAllas
Nash is a playmaker, he's the means to an end(Manning=QB, Ronaldinho=Mid-Fielder etc). They're "creators". I've said this many times but I believe Nash is a better player than Allen Iverson. Put Nash in Phily and they would have a better record that they have now. Of course there's no way to prove it since he doesn't play for them.
********'s has had a good supporting cast, not only this year, but his first two. Kobe just doesn't make his teammates better because of the style of basketball he plays.
Garnett is probably the closest and the excemption to the rule. But look at someone like Gasol, he has alot of "cast offs"(Jones, Miller, Wright) and a role player like Shanne Battier. And he somehow WINS.

Re: Nash is the same player he was in DAllas
I think Nash is better than Iverson too. But I think there are probably around 10 players better than him in basketball. Nash has just been put in a perfect situation to bring out his ability. Not every superstar has that.

Re: Nash is the same player he was in DAllas
Yeah, it's easy to say that now because you've seen the results.
Let's travel a little back in time. 2 years ago. The summer where Phoenix went out looking for Nash(with team representatives + Amare). When they signed him it wasn't that big of news, aside from a couple of morons saying he was OVERPAILD aka LMFAO!. Heck for a player of his caliber it went almost unnoticed at the time except for the skeptics.
Now everyone is riding his jock. I'm just curious to what 10 players you'd pick over Nash? Are we talking about 10 players with more talent/individual skills?
The whole he's a product of Amare, has been already disproved this season. Now put Amare on his place, and tell me they would have the same record with Barbosa or Diaw running the team with Amare on board.
Do yourself a favor and watch sum FC Barca(soccer) matches. It's like watching Phoenix play basketball. They rely on Ronaldinho(Nash), Eto'O(Amare), and put a bunch of role players that fit a role(Deco, Messi, Xavi, Van Bommel, Larsson etc)
