i would like to clarify that i dont consider him a franchise player... to me a franchise player is one guy who u build a team around over years... there are few of those... probably less than 15, maybe 10...
however, Rodman is definatley a big time impact player and a guy i would consider one step outside of those franchise players...

Re: Rodman's hoping for NBA return
It depends what you mean by impact. Rodman is not a player you would build around. To me great impact players are franchise players and some would disagree with that which I'm fine with since we're all entitled to our own opinions. It does depend on the context you're talking about and the context can be subjective. To me Rodman is more of a missing piece that you add onto a championship contender. That is what I meant when I said he was a damn good role player. In fact, IMO he was the ultimate role player. If you needed a great rebounder and solid defender he would be your man but that's all he could do. It is also questionable how much of a positive impact he would bring to a team if the team did not have the necessary egos to keep him in check. Rodman disrupts team chemistry just ask David Robinson especially in the playoffs. He needs to be babysitted. His tenures with the Spurs, Lakers, and Mavs were absolute disasters. The Pistons also traded him in a hurry for Sean Elliot even after he averaged over 18 rpg. If an organization built their team around Rodman they would probably be in the lottery for years.
But like I said the context is subjective IMO. If you asked me whether or not adding Rodman to a team that suited him would help them win a championship I would say yes and in that context he is an impact player. The proof is there. He has 5 rings.

Re: Rodman's hoping for NBA return
Yeah franchise and impact are definitely different. Rodman isn't someone you build around like you said, but he definitely makes a huge impact on all teams he plays for.

Re: Rodman's hoping for NBA return
Not necessarily. This really depends like I said on whether the team he joins has the necessary egos to keep him in check. His impact was pretty negative when he joined the Spurs, Lakers, and Mavs. Like I said, the Pistons even traded him almost in a hurry for Sean Elliot even after he had career seasons in rebounding.

Re: Rodman's hoping for NBA return
How old would he be if he returns like 47? The best he could do would be to average 7 mins a game the coach will probably just use him as a human victory cigar ala Darko. But his return would fill in some seats though but he would have no impact whatsoever.

Re: Rodman's hoping for NBA return
He's 45 ^^^
born in 1961.
I just checked his stats on nba.com ... he avg 13.10 RPG in his carreer, had 9 years where he avg more than 12 RPG, 6 of them was 15RPG or more.
that's insane, especially for a guy listed at 6'8". Apparently some says he was actually 6'6".

Re: Rodman's hoping for NBA return
I heard on Howard Stern show that Rodman doesn't mind coming back to NBA and I think he wants to play for the Knicks. He also said that Knicks is not interested in winning championship...they are interested in generating sales and Rodman can do that.

Re: Rodman's hoping for NBA return
45 years old? I'm sorry, I just don't see any team giving him a chance. This is his what 4th comeback attempt?
Game Over.
