Re: Why haven't the Pistons sent Darko to the NBDL??
EXACTLY my point.
That is why I said comparing him to Toni is ridiculous even if we consider Darko's European efforts.

Re: Why haven't the Pistons sent Darko to the NBDL??
Im surprised on the lack of respect for Toni,..
He was one of Europe's best players, 6'11 all rounder who can handle the ball as well as most guards.. as someone stated he was europe's magic.
not to mention vital part of the Bull's championship runs as the NBA's premier 6th man.

Re: Why haven't the Pistons sent Darko to the NBDL??
Darko wouldn't be in the NBDL even if he was eligible.
Dumars isn't a big fan of it. Not until they can get some of their own coaches down there at least. Amir Johnson and Alex Acker are both second round picks and have spent the entire season on the inactive list but the neither has been sent down. They'd rather keep them around their own guys and own coaches and make sure they are the ones guiding their development.

dumars is not keeping darko just so he doesnt have to admit that he screwed up, he is not some insecure gm hanging by a thread, he is widely considered the best gm in the league and only makes moves or holds off on moves in order to benefit the team. dumars has traded his first round picks early in the past (cleaves, rodney white) the reason dumars has not done anythinh with darko is he believes he can help the team

ok, i'm not trying to take you to task here, i just wanna know what you mean. like, you're speculating (in terms of dumars believing darko can help the pistons), so i'd just be interested to hear your logic: how do you think joe thinks darko can really help the pistons?
just curious- totally civil. personally, i honestly don't think darko serves any purpose on that roster- but that's coming from my third person's point-of-view, and it means nothing. you might be closer to the scene, i dunno.

In that past, Joe has shown no hesitation in trading players that he doesn't think have it. Including high lottery picks.
To this point, he's declined all offers made for Darko. Atlanta offered Al Harrington for Darko last summer and Joe wouldn't budge. There was a lot of talk around New Years 2004 of Detroit swinging a deal with Portland for Rasheed Wallace, but all talks broke down when Joe refused to include Darko as part of any package (and we would later learn how highly Joe thinks of Rasheed).
You want to know what purpose Darko serves on Detroit's roster?

It's called a GM planning for both the present AND the future. Ben and Rasheed aren't going to be 31 forever. What a concept.

Well if you look at it... He's actually playing well of late. He hasn't missed a shot from the field in over a month. That isn't saying much, I know, it is only six shot attempts. But it does show that he has been very judicious with his shooting. He isn't shying away from longer shots either, at least three of those six (probably exactly three of those six) were perimeter jumpers. He's pulling in an assist per night out there as well. An assist isn't much, but in only four minutes par it shows that he is making smart decisions and hitting teammates low for easy points (he hasn't had many turnovers at all either).
You may be saying that I'm extrapolating this all from a very limited amount of data, and that is true. But I am also putting my opinions out there based on what I have seen with my own eyes. He's playing good ball when he gets on the floor, he's actually hustling when he's on the floor... he's genuinely showing me a very good side of his game in his limited minutes.
Frankly, much like last year... if we've got the home advantage through the playoffs locked up with 4-5 games left he will get some genuine starts as Sheed and Ben sit for a prolonged break. Hopefully when the time comes he'll do the same thing he did last year in his two starts: average 16pts/8reb/2blk per.
Now do you understand why Dumars hasn't got rid of Darko Milicic yet? Or at least why Pistons fans think this...
-Chris.

So did Dumars pass on players like Carmelo Anthony, Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh when he took Mateen Cleaves and Rodney White?
