And how many times did the Bills lose the superbowl?
Kemp was my favorite player, but dude was destined to never win a dunk contest. Small hands were his major undoing many a year. He couldn't hold onto the ball.

Do you know who he lost to in 91? Pippen ?

Dee Brown's Peek-a-boo dunk, and his pump up the volume reeboks.

Re: LeBron needs to rise up
I was looking at the previous dunk contestants...did anyone remember Allan Houston and Antonio Davis being the dunk contest?

I remember the Dee Brown arm across his eyes dunk. That was incredible. Even if he peeked. Looking back the best dunk contests were the 80s, few in the 90s, and the 2000's.
For todays best dunkers I'd like to see.
Desmond Mason, Josh Smith, Jason Richardson, and Vince Carter all in one contest.

Yeah but do you remember the shoes? When he was pumping them up and the crowd was going nuts? The Best dunkers not only throw down crazy dunks, but they also work the crowd.
I'd probably swap out Josh Smith for Nate Robinson.
The best dunk contest of all-time was the Vince Carter, Tracy Mcgrady, Steve Francis one. People always remember Vince's dunks, but his counsin' tracy's dunks were also amazing, as was lil Stevie's.

NBA players are much bigger, longer, and athletic. Zone defenses at the NBA ranks can be devastating to a team without great shooters/ball-handlers, like to the Lakers when Kobe isn't in the game.

I remember Stackhouse had an 1st amazing dunk.....the problem was his came after Carter's and nobody paid attention; hell, the camera barely caught it cause they were too busy showing the reply of Carter's.

I know plenty of old timers and HOFer's that claimed defense in the late 90's and early 2000's weren't as good as the 80's. Wilt once said he'd average 70 ppg in the modern-day NBA because defenses were so much worse. Pippen once said KG was a stats guy who disappears down the stretch of games. Bill Walton once said Rasho was a better interior defender than Tim Duncan because Tim Duncan was on the bench at the time. Barkley once said Argentina was located north of the Indian ocean.

Intangibles
in*tan*gi*bles (greek meaning: plays hard every night) - 1. word used to describe marginally talented and productive basketball players. 2. Last resort when explaining the "value" of said marginally talented and productive player. 3. Shane Battier
Love the Marc Jackson-Jeff Van Gundy combo...
"I've played with guys like Rodmonavic; good enough to keep both teams in the game."~ Jackson during gm 5 commenting as Rodmonavic scores at one end and gives up another layup.

Re: LeBron needs to rise up
Yes. I have video of almost every dunk contest. Allan Houston did a bounce of the head dunk and everybody was laughing.
I think Antonio Davis' best dunk was a jack knife that looked horrible because of how tall he was. Can't remember but they were both not impressive at all.
That whole competition was pwned by Rider and his East Bay Funk Dunk. The hype surrounding Rider was the same as the hype surrounding Vince's participation in 2000 especially when Rider predicted that he would win it when he got drafted.
