He knows that, so he uses shotfakes and good hesitation/stop-and-go type moves to throw you off and get you to foul him where he is one of the best free throw shooters in the league.
That said, he is having a season like the one he had in Minnesota two years ago. He can play when he wants to play, which is usually in a contract year.

Rip Hamilton would be my answer to that.

Re: Where is the love for Sam Cassell?
have to bring this trhead back up again after his incredible performance at the raptors. TIES the game with a 3 pointer to send the game to overtime. watch this guy's highlights on nestle crunchtime. i think he's definitely fighting for a spot in the playoffs.

Re: Where is the love for Sam Cassell?
hes a crafty veteran thats won a title before. so he knows what it takes to win but i suspect that hes a little injury prone at his age. i'd be very careful about him logging too many minutes if i was dunleavy.
i love sam. i jsut wish he wore a face mask

WHOOOOOOOOAH hold up dude, 'THAT' year with Shawn Kemp, wat are u trying to say, that they just somehow rose up one year and made the finals and proved to the basketball world that they could do it, what u you probably dont understand is that pretty much from Paytons second year in the NBA (around '91) they were perrenial Western Conference Semi-Finalists and Conf Finalists, losing some tight game 7's.....and by saying Payton is not a lock HOF, thats proposturous, probably the best defensive PG of all time plus the amount of awards he has recieved puts him in rare company (All NBA teams, All NBA defensive teams, DPOY award, 9 time all star etc etc). You dont have to win a c'ship to be in the HOF.
As for Sam Cassell, stellar career, has put up some great numbers in his years, he wont reach Gary Payton status, ever, he did win rings with Houston, but he wasnt exactly the star player, if u count rings and what he's done in his career, you might as well mention him in the same breath as Toni Kucoc or Ron Harper...probably no HOF for Cassell unless they win a C'ship in the next couple of years...

Re: Where is the love for Sam Cassell?
The seattle super sonics were many time 55+ win teams and usually always led the west in the early to mid 90's
They just always had 1st round exits or late game 7 exits up untill they made the finals in the late 90's

Re: Where is the love for Sam Cassell?
There's a great story on Sam in this week's ESPN the Magazine... He has really had to go through alot to get where he is now. I never really liked him much, but after reading that he has gained my respect.

Re: Where is the love for Sam Cassell?
cassell is a huge piece for the LAC this season. he brings veteran leadership to a very young team. and he's underrated big time. but in no way a GP.
