For those of you who think Byron Scott did such a great job w/ the Nets...

Check out this article from a Nets beat writer...

Quote:

Were the players themselves informed of this? Did someone call for a mutiny and not send Richard Jefferson the travel itinerary?

"If I say no, he's a liar," RJ said of Scott's remarks. "If I say yeah, we're a bunch of (jerks). Is there a proper answer to that? So why talk about it?"

Really good answer.

And what else could he say? That Scott never put any time into the job, and that Rod Thorn was the last one to find out? That he never ran practices, never did the pregame board, never did the game plan, never did the halftime adjustments? That not once during his tenure did he utter the phrase, "I've got an idea. ..."? That during the 2002 Finals at L.A., he didn't participate in a single coaches meeting?
He might be the greatest coach in the world for the Hornets, but w/ the Nets he screwed the pooch. He established the right mindset, and that's something a coach has to do, but he apparently thought that was all he was required to do as HC.

That's all you've got? Give me a break. This isn't an isolated report. Nets officials have been whispering the same things for years now.

It's just a hatchet job.Did he remember the fact that the Nets won two conference championships with Scott? No matter what anyone else thinks you are a good coach when you win games.Anyway is the Nets front office better at keeping secrets than the NSA,the Pentagon and the White House?None of this stuff came out before and it would be very remarkable if any of it could have gone unreported for more than a week.Far more remarkable that all of it went unreported for years.

Scott got fired because the players stopped listening to him and they stopped playing for him.It doesn't concern me where the blame lies. This is the nature of the modern NBA game.If the superstars want the coach gone then they can get rid of them because coaches are easier to find.

I thought the main catalyst for Scott's demise as a Nets coach was that he and Kidd did not get along, and if any coach can't get along with their star player (especially as one who's as decorated as Kidd), the coach will definitely get the axe.

Good post. Kidd is the GM of that team, and he started butting heads with Scott and turned the team against him, therefore, he was booted. He was/is a great coach though, his players just have to be willing to listen. Kidd wasn't listening.

I recall a discussion yesterday where they were saying Kidd was a coach killer.

So its OK to not be interested in actually fulfilling the duties of a Head Coach. Gotcha. Thanks for the clarification. I'm glad you all know so much about the Nets.

Their record is mediocre this year, despite having three All-Star level players. Kidd is overrated as a player, and a cancer/wife-beater who will retire with no rings.
