Dude I'm saying bad players can put up big numbers on bad teams. Joe Johnson isn't bad... infact he's a pretty darn good player however JJ's stats on the Hawks are less impressive then Diaw's on the Suns... that's all I'm saying.

And your analogy breaks down there.
Lee Nailon has struggled to even stay in the league. Ricky Davis on the Cavs would have been a better comparison.

Re: Hawks beat Pistons 99 - 98
Amareca is right, Diaw is better than JJ. Has there ever been a better passing duo than Diaw and Nash? In history? The answer is no.
Marion is the MVP though. If he keeps this up he'll be a shoein for the Hall. Has anyone ever been more deserving of MVP? Again, no.
Has there ever been a team with two different MVPs in back to back seasons? And neither of them is even their best player! With Amare next season they should make a run at 80.

Yes, there has been better duos...but that's irrelevant. Because they are a great passing duo doesn't make him a "better player" than Joe Johnson. There's more to it than just passing, which JJ is also doing well. Diaw has shown flashes of Manu Ginobili type unstoppable-ness on offense, but they're just flashes right now. Once he learns to discern when to fly in for the one handed crush and when to pop and take the 8 footer (assuming he gets to the point where he can make it consistently) and when to pass to his teammate; he'll be a star, and you'll know it.
Marion is having a great year, no doubt. But the MVP is about which player had a great year that led to his team's success. And if Dallas stays on the current path and leads the West over San Antonio, I don't see how you don't give Dirk the MVP. Kobe or LeBron deserve it hands-down based on the numbers, but they are the victims of having bad teams. They'll get All-NBA, but half of the MVP is team success. Nash is having a great year, but they aren't -the- story of the NBA like they were last year. Sure, what they've done without Amare has been great...but Dallas is looking at a 60+ win season led by the guy who was supposed to be a "bad leader". Now, if Amare comes back and the Phoenix Suns dominate, the MVP discussions will get more heated. We'll have a better idea a couple months down the road.

He often creates for his teammates even when they can't get the score. There's that plus he doesn't have a PG who can create shots for him or his teammates...so he has to do it. 38% of JJ's shots are assisted, while 53% are for Diaw. Diaw has a slew of capable scorers to pass to, while JJ does not. My point is this: the fact that he's playing on a horrible team actually makes it more difficult to put up better stats. No, it doesn't mean anything in the grand scheme of things since they are losing. But I don't see why you want to compare two players and then say the stats of one of them have no relevance because they are losing.
Johnson is a good defender, but is different from Diaw. Diaw is much longer but is slower on his feet. If you want to defend a quick player, JJ is the better choice. If you want to defend a bigger or slower guy, Diaw's long arms get the nod. Both are above average defenders.
I wouldn't say Diaw is better than Joe Johnson at this point of his career. His outside shot is still weak and inconsistent (misses a lot of open shots), and he still has a lot to learn as far as when to take the shot and when to pass. I can't tell you how many times I've seen him be right under the basket but instead of shooting he fires the pass to the three point line. Diaw is young though and could end up the better player. Right now, he's not quite there.
Obviously, if contracts are taken into consideration you have to hand it to Diaw. Atlanta is paying a hefty price for Joe Johnson's production.

I don't hate JJ he still is one of my favorite players and a really good player, but I rather have Diaw+2 first rounders+ more cap space than JJ

Re: Hawks beat Pistons 99 - 98
If the Hawks draft JJ Redick this year they will be better than the pistons (and most other teams in the NBA) for every year until JJ retires. He's better than Diaw, Amare, Johnson, Billups, whoever is being mentioned in this thread.
