Its a long season. People are humans. There are lulls. Its why you don't see teams winning 65+ very often. Tough to keep the kind of focus and drive that is needed to get there.

Re: whats happening to the pistons?

True, the one thing the Bulls had that the Pistons dont, is a guy named Micheal. You can be a great team with a hell of a starting lineup, but without someone who could take over the game with his defense and offense, like jordon, you arent gonna win 70

Go Mavs
As of 6:00 ET (2/ 8/ 06) that is inaccurate.

-----

The Pistons are being over hyped after being underrated prior to the season. All five starters should not be in the All-star game and even 3 is debatable. Billups is not the MVP and they really had no shot at ever winning 70 (much less 72).

I am of the opinion that the best thing that could happen to the Pistons is for them to lose to the Clippers tonight then get shellacked by Miami on Sunday (Having only two all-stars would also be ideal).

This will predictably lead to the national media kicking sand on the Pistons title chances as well as bring focus to the perceived effect that Browns departure has had on the teams defense.

That should snap them back to reality and allow them to re-embrace their trusty bunker mentality (which I believe has been vital to their success the past few seasons).

- I still like their chances to win it all this season (though I do question the mental toughness of their coach).

Re: whats happening to the pistons?

they play their starters too many minutes, both wallace's have a lot of miles on them and they need to have their minutes cut back. i for one thought they would use some of their reserves more when brown left, he was notorious for playing the starters a ton. flip seems to give them more freedom out there but the minutes are still too high, especially for a team with such a commanding lead in the standings. i think what they should do is deal mr. milicic and get someone in there on that frontline that can eat up some minutes. they obviously dont have any faith that he's the answer.

Re: whats happening to the pistons?

I read in the detroit news the other day that the Pistons were trying to get Lindsay Hunter back quicker because Billups was so banged up.If Billups needs some rest then they should sit him or they should trade Darko for a backup PG if they don't trust Arroyo to keep them afloat while Chauncey sits.It would be really foolish to have such a great chance at a title and let it slip past you so that you
could leave Darko on the bench.

i think they figured if they could run the table they could leave darko at the end of the bench and just sort of gloss the whole thing over but now it appears they may have to add some depth. they may be able to move darko and get a derek fisher and a late lottery pick(that sort of a deal) and just right it off as something that didnt work. gm's dont seem to ever want to admit when something goes wrong with such a high pick but they obviously dont want him or he'd be in the rotation. time to make a move.

Re: whats happening to the pistons?

expect Pistons to still finish with the best record cuz the spurs and mavs will surely face luls to come... Mavs are on a big streak right now... these things come around and go around...

except for those Bulls... its a crdit to MJ... i think he was so determined to prove that he could come back that year that he kept the Bulls focused and competitive like him every single night...

How can a Chris Paul led team have a better record (in the last 5 games) then a Chauncy Billups led team? Bullups is supposed to be the frontrunner for the MVP of the league, or one of them?

How can this be? Is it possible Billups leadership skills aren't really that good? Or does it have to do with Chris Paul being a lot better then people realize?

[SARCASM]
Wasn't getting injured and watching his team nose dive what locked up the MVP award for Nash last year?

Billups gets hurt and clearly isn't himself and the Pistons start to struggle as well.

What is the difference?
