Picking at a healed scab.

I don't know if any of you haven't heard that saying before and if you haven't then forgive me for my stupidity. What that means is bring up news of the past, or arguing stuff that already happened.

What I want to talk about is how did Kobe not get the sixth man in the 87-98 season, instead Danny Manning got it. I was looking over there stats.

Kobe averaged 15.4 points to Mannings 13.5
Kobe averaged 2.5 assists to Mannings 2.0
Manning averaged 5.6 boards to Kobes 3.1

So what? The thing that surprises me is...

Manning started 11 times, that is 10 more then Kobe
Although Kobe averaged .5 more minutes.

It could have gone either way but with 10 more starts Manning could have gotten some nice stat game padding those stats quite a bit, aren't there rules to how much starts disqualifies a person of sixth man?

So what, the averages evened out. Everybody that has ever been on a basketball team knows that if you want to play better you need to be in for a while with a few exceptions. I know for myself I would do much more in 10 minutes then 6 increments of 2 mintues even though it equals 12 minutes...

So what I am saying is Manning starting in 11 minutes had a chance to build momentum and confidence increasing his performance.

Aw hell I am just bitter...

That is one key point that so many fans overlook when judging players by stat sheets instead of watching them in more than a few games....like watching at least 20 games per year.

Solid blocks of playing time( 2 sessions of 6 minutes each) is far better for scoring, etc. - that 6 increments of 2 minutes each.

Well thank you, now if only my coach had understood that earlier on in the year.

Danny Fortson averaged more points and rebounds than Troy Murphy and in less minutes....who would you rather have?

There are of course exceptions, see the best players off the bench. I think it ws John Starks who said in an interview that he has a whole different outlook on the game and always keeps warm so he can come in and be efficient as sub.
