There's a big difference between helping your friend in a fight by "fighting" rather then shooting a weapon. Helping your friend in a fight by shooting a weapon is not self defence, unless were talking hard core assault where alot of danger is imminent. I feel sorry for America when people like you can't realize that.
What happened to the days of settling things with your fists.

Re: Jackson charged with criminal recklessness
Everyone is at fault, including Stephen Jackson. I'm not saying it wasn't self-defense but these guys have no business at strip clubs and other similar hangouts. It is only asking for trouble and often enough, something actually happens. Yes, he was hit by a car. Yes, he was punched in the mouth. Yes, he fired the gun in the air.
There's two ways to look at this: 1)Did he fire the gun to protect his teammates and anyone else there at the time and 2)Did he fire the gun simply to look cool? Saying Jackson is a thug is going a bit far. Yes, he played a role in the Detroit brawl but is it really fair to judge him based on that one incident? Not to mention he was protecting Ron Artest at the time and had good intentions. I grew up in a big city. I saw thugs all the time and Stephen Jackson does not even come close to these people.

He is now saying that he wasn't punched in the mouth and he fired the gun in the air before he was hit by the car.
Jackson originally told police he fired in self-defense during the fight.
But Brizzi, who filed charges Wednesday, said Jackson got his gun from his car and fired it before the car hit him. Jackson also originally said he was punched in the face, but later told police his injuries were from being hit by the car, Brizzi said.

This whole thing is very weird. If he lied about that, who knows what else he lied about.

avoiding becoming Paul Pierce or worse.

I don't know how many people really remember his stabbing. I had forgotten about it until you brought it up... that was some serious baaad news.
The most amazing thing is he didn't miss a single game. That should be a lesson to a majority of NBA players who can't play if they roll an ankle.

"Kirilenko's eyes started to tear in the locker room as he talked in a shaky voice about his frustrations and inability to stop Pierce. He played just four minutes in the final quarter because of his inept defense, but his small consolation was that none of his teammates could do any better."
- Salt Lake Tribune
"I think he is at a point in his career where he gets very distracted by having a hand in his face."
- Portland forward Buck Williams on Larry Bird, before Larry Legend dropped 49 points, 14 rebounds, and 12 assists in a double overtime win

Re: Jackson charged with criminal recklessness
I am black from the hood played college ball and I say this without hesitance or trepdation Stephen Jackson is a hoodlum . He hangs with the wrong cats and smokes weed and looks for trouble on the regular.
He may do the Pacers a favor and get locked up. They need to rid temseleves of he and Tinsely. This era's version of Rod Strckland.
When they finally get reliable players that can be counted on to surround JO they will have the chance to be a big winner. They don't have many character gys on that squad and its surprising Bird and Walsh have put up with it for so long. They were too busy making that culture about Artest when their problems ran deeper than that.
JO seems to be too much of a follower as well or he'd have thrown those guys under a bus long time ago.

When I was talking about helping a friend I was actually reffering to the incident with the fans. I am all for settling this with my fists, but you know the problem? A lot of people in the world aren't, this is why I own a gun. For my own protection.
