I think it comes down to how well Dwight can score, and how much work our guards will have to do on defense.
It depends on who has some step up. It's really a tossup.

AK doesn't guard Dwight.

utah can give the ball Deron
and of course Boozer, Okur can cause damage too
also it depends if Kirilenko plays

Not that their is much point to discussing this topic ... but the part about no go to guy for Orlando isn't really true. Orlando doesn't have Kobe or Wade to go to but they do have a number of guys who are willing to take and can make/create big shots in crunch time. Nelson, Hill, Arroyo, and Hedo are all guys willing to create those opportunities or shots ... and have thus far. And Orlando has the ultimate clean-up guy on the boards should they miss. Part of the reason Orlando is 5-1 in close games this year.

Re: Utah Jazz or Orlando Magic
Three things:
1.) What's the point of this topic?
2.) What are magics?
3.) If the Magic just dominated the Jazz on their own court, why exactly are the Jazz winning this poll?

I know you hate what Boozer did to your team, but can you really call a player that is averaging those numbers just a role player?
|
Yes, because he's only averaged those numbers over 15 games. His career stats are much more role playerish at 15/9/2. He's only excelled this season because of the players around him. Although he has some nice post moves, he gets a lot of his points under the basket off of feeds from other players or offensive rebounds. He's not the kind of guy you can just give the ball to and expect to get points whenever you need them.

Re: Utah Jazz or Orlando Magic
When did Deron Williams become Steve Nash in the eyes of fans? I've watched a lot of Jazz games and Deron Williams does not create plays for everyone else. The Jazz runs plays. Deron's responsibility is to call the play and then hand the ball off to whoever the first pass is to go to, and then move into his next position. Of course, he does what he does quite well... but they don't run pick and rolls or pick and pops with Deron Williams finding defensive holes and so forth. In fact, that never happens. The Jazz run plays. Their offense is good, because they run good plays, and additionally the players execute them very well. There is no overriding player who influences the offense to the degree that people (for some unknown reason), want to credit Deron Williams for doing.

Re: Utah Jazz or Orlando Magic
AK goes down last year and the year before, no one could be the play maker for the jazz. Arroyo was traded within the first 15 games of the season, they lost lopez to injuries, then they picked up mcleod and palacio the next year while deron was a rookie. The jazz lost so many games the last 2 seasons when AK was out, but deron has been able to get a perfect record from the jazz when kirilenko doesn't play.

The Jazz swept the Pistons last year, but does that mean if they met in the finals last year that the jazz would win a 7 game series.... Regular season means jack.
But the whole topic would no way happen. The jazz won't make noise until a few more years, same with orlando. Both teams are still too young to win a title.

Only because they play in the Eastern Conference, the epitome of horrible.

Re: Utah Jazz or Orlando Magic
I've been tempering my optimism but people are soon going to realize Orlando is for real. This is no fluke. Orlando may be the deepest team in the league right now. Tonight, on the road, Orlando spanks Seattle with 3 starters scoring 5 or less and only 1 starter in double-digits (Dwight) because of 48 points off the bench. They are defending great, scoring efficiently, and can kill you in many different ways. They don't have one scrub coming off the bench. I'm beginning to think winning the East may be a possibility if we stay healthy.

Re: Utah Jazz or Orlando Magic
How does 16 and 12 per game make you a Superstar? Is it just me or does 16 and 12 not make you a superstar? Maybe 16 and 12 assists, but MAN, Dwight Howard gets so much credit even though there are 10 other big men in the league that do a lot more damage than he does every night. Sure, Dwight has games of 20/20, but for all of those, he has games where he barely scores 10. That's not a superstar.
Neither team is making the finals.
The Jazz played very badly and Orlando killed them on the Boards, for the one game they met. Hurrah. One game doesn't mean anything other than another notch in the scoreboard. Tonight the Jazz whipped the Spurs on the boards, so I guess we better crown them, right?
Detroit and Cleveland are still better teams than the Magic. San Antonio and Dallas are still better teams than the Jazz.
There are a lot of misconceptions in this thread. I suggest people just watch both teams before they say "I don't watch the Jazz/Magic a lot, but these are definitely what they are good or not good at".
