Vin Baker to Boston - analysis

We all know why Seattle did this deal.....cap space for Lewis and a big free agent next season. Also, could Gary Payton be traded??? I think its very possible now.

Boston got Baker who IMO will be a much better player in the East with about 15ppg and 8-9rpg. However, I heard Boston could have gotten Tinsley and Croshere for Anderson alone. Now Croshere is expensive, but the deal would have been made after somepoint that Croshere's contract would be lower. And Tinsley would've been a great young PG to build the team around.

I give Boston a B and Seattle a B+ on the trade. Both are helped....Boston for a playoff push and Seattle because of cap reasons.

Wow...

I think Boston got absolutely ripped in this deal.
They couldn't afford Rodney Rogers before and they certainly cannot now.
They improved very little from Potapenko to Baker in my opinion and they lost their floor general in the process. They never should have traded Joe Johnson and now they have traded Joe Forte, too. Two of their three consecutive first rounders for what??? Williams and Delk??? Boston gets a D at best for ruining their chances of winning the East (without another trade).

Seattle, on the other hand, should be commended. Now they have the option to all-out rebuild or to stick with this team that will vie for one of the last two spots in the West again this year. Also, they are not nearly as cap-strapped as they were before. They get a B+ without a doubt.

Are you kidding me?????

Baker is much, much better than Potapenko. I'm not a Baker, Celtics, or Sonics fan, but Baker becomes one of the top 5 C's in the East. I think he was a good addition but he does come at an expensive price.

Zo, Jermaine O'Neal, Deke, Wallace, Baker, (Ratliff is up there if healthy.)

Also, the trade was made with Boston knowing they couldn't sign Rodney Rogers.

It's a gamble for Boston.

If Baker plays the way he has recently, he'll probably get around 10ish points, and 8 rebounds a game in Boston (while getting routinely abused when he's playing defense)... and will be one of the most overpaid players in the league.

However, he's supposedly wanted to play in Boston for a while... if he gets in shape, and actually dedicates himself again, he can be a very good player for them.

He hasn't average more than 8 RPG since 96-97 season. He vaerage 6.4 in 01-02 and 5.7 in 00-01. I don't think he will average much more than that. He barely out rebounded Brent Barry, a SG, when he was with the Sonics. Why don't they up Battie minutes? He is averaging around 13 Rebounds per 48 minutes. If he played 35 min instead of 25 min he would be around 10-11 RPG. I think Baker wil hurt the offense, the defense and the team chemistry.
