Re: The Lakers don't need Kidd
I don't think Kidd is as bad as a shooter as everyone says he is.
He makes a lot of 3's. He shoots a good percentage. .360 is not bad. His only problem IMO is that he's streaky.
His free throws are better than Smush's at least...
Anyways, hes a good defender, which we really, really need. He's a big guard, which Jackson likes. And he could get us a lot of easy points on the break.
What no one has mentioned is his ability to post up smaller point guards. The triangle is really effective if everybody on the floor is a post up threat.

Re: The Lakers don't need Kidd
No. Bibby would be a bad move, Kidd would be a great move. Kidd improves the Lakers transition game, he improves the rebounding, he is a huge improvment on defense, and he gives the Lakers a PG who can execute and will not crap his pants in crunch time. It's a no-brainer.

You can't shut them down one-on-one.
Kidd has routinely guarded big PGs like Arenas and Billups as well as opposition's best wing players, especially down the stretch and done a commendable job, and he has no equal when it comes to help/team defense. I would take Kidd as the third or fourth best defender at his position considering his overall impact on defense.

Are there really any PG's in the league right now, that cant be considered quick?

Re: The Lakers don't need Kidd
I'm surprised nobody has ventured into what the Lakers would be giving up. I think that would play a pretty large part in evaluating whether Kidd makes the team better.

Re: The Lakers don't need Kidd
We already know what they have to give up, at the minimum Bynum. Since the Lakers aren't willing to give him up, that tells you that they don't think this trade would make them contenders. Otherwise they'd do it. If it was Garnett we were talking about they'd surely give up Bynum (I would hope), but not for Kidd.

The thread was more about how compatible Kidd was with the Lakers.
I wouldn't want to trade Bynum for him.

And this is ultimately what it comes down to. It makes no sense for the Lakers to trade Bynum to the Nets to get Kidd, and it makes no sense for the Nets to trade Kidd to the Lakers unless they get back Bynum.

Re: The Lakers don't need Kidd
It makes more sense then you think. Kidd is a PG in the last stage of his career with quite a bit of money still left on his deal. His trade value is not as high as a lot of people think. Since the current Nets formula of Kidd/Jefferson/Carter with a super weak interior is not getting it done, and Vince is likely gone this summer, why not trade them both if they are going to miss the playoffs anyway?
Cash out the 2 pieces for bigs, additional draft picks, and young talent, end up finishing 12th or 13th in the East instead of 9th or 10th and getting a stronger lottery pick in June.
Team would then have no identity but lots of options and cap space in the future. Could make a run at Gasol this summer as well.
