More Important, if he plays well, they'll be Finals contenders.
Maybe, but there's a lot of contenders in the East. The Nets have one of the better teams, but think about it; if the Cavs improve AT ALL, they're going to be tough to beat. Plus they have LeBron. The Heat will likely be better than last year with Wade being completely healthy. The Bulls continually get better. The Pistons are the Pistons. The Raptors are getting better. The Magic will be a little better. The Knicks might be playoff-ready with Randolph in tow and Francis off the team. Boston has Ray Allen now. Agent Zero's going to be on a mission. That's 10 teams with good chances of making the playoffs.
The East is the JV league, but there's a lot of JV teams contending for the JV title this coming year. Could be an exciting race.
But yeah, I really like this addition for the Nets. I think it makes them a top 4 team, but like I said, that doesn't mean much, because I think the east is so close in terms of talent, that anyone could knock anyone else out.

Agreed, somewhat. Honestly, it wouldn't surprise me if the 8th seed in the East made it to the Finals. I just put the Nets as one of the favorites.

That leaves one spot, more than likely the 8th seed, open. NJ is easily a playoff team, and if they get a decent seed a good Finals choice for the East.
I'd like to say this is a good signing, but Magloire has been a lazy bum for the better part of three seasons. The light may never come on for this dude. How he made an all-star team, I'll never know.

Thats part of the ingeniousness of a 1 year deal...he HAS to play his *** off to guarantee himself a few more years in the league.

Or he could just loaf and turn in another mediocre campaign in a contract year like he did with Portland last season - and then collect another $3-4 million NEXT summer from another team starved for a burly 7-footer.
That's not to say it was dumb to sign him to a one-year deal. Just don't expect him to return to his All-Star form or make the mistake of thinking his career is over if he averages 6 points and 7 boards...again.

I dont have incredibly high expectations, but its no coincidence that talented bigs really shine on this team when playing alongside great passers in Kidd and Carter. Look at Moore, 70% of his production on the offensive end was created by both those two.

I'll give him the benefit of the doubt seeing as he's been on rebuilding teams over the last couple of seasons.

He has said himself that he wants a long term contract next year meaning he knows how important this is to his value.
