Yeah, they had illegal kick backs to him in order to circumvent the salary cap and Stern punished them by taking 5 first round picks away from them as well as voiding Smith's contract and not permitting him to resign with Minny! They had already traded Marbury for no one and let Googs go. So they had to rely on McHale trading for players after he traded and let go his best two other players. Tough spot. The other GM that did that deal was fired.
