Ariza just made Kobe's job a lot easier by having another player who can defend the perimeter.

Seriously, plus, all Ariza has to do is run to the basket, catch the ball and finish, something Walton can't do. The only benefit Walton had on the floor was another ball handler who could create, something that right now is more of a luxury than a necessity. They already have guys like Kobe and Odom who can handle the ball, Fisher can create his own shot, and Bynum can create his own shot. Walton's poor shooting and atrocious defense is not enough to warrant starting him for his passing abilities.
