Re: Wade or Deron: Quintessial guard?
i really dont like either but deron is not in wades class.
deron is still in the chris paul comparison phase.
Wade is in the top 5 in the league discussion (although he's not top 5)

As far as it goes, they are both the quintessential guard in their respective position. One is the quintessential shooting guard, the other is the quintessential point guard. Wade does what a SG is supposed to do, score, while still being able to make plays, the former more so than the latter. Deron is the reverse.
Now, if I am making a team from the ground up, I choose Wade, even with his injuries. I just hope I have a training staff good enough to keep him healthy.
When both are healthy, Wade is easily ahead of Deron Williams.

Good point. I should clarify that I consider today's shooting guards to be nearly interchangeable with small forwards for the most part, and so think of point guards as the only 'true' guards. Again, I have a personal reason for leaning that way, which I admitted earlier.

Re: Wade or Deron: Quintessial guard?
Can someone tell me where the Deron is a good defender rumor came from? He may be big but that doesn't make him a good defender.
Wade is a much better defender. Not to mention he's better at everything else too besides shooting, which he doesn't really bother much with because he can take it inside so easily.
Deron has a major advantage in durability however.

When I read Deron was a good defender, and then saw Marbury's stat line last night, I laughed a bit...

And? Lebron,Wade and Kobe punishes the likes of Raja Bell,Bowen and Ron Artest too. Are they a bad defender then?
IN todays generation, Deron can be considered as an average defender, he could be really good because he has excellent footspeed and he' has a wide body to guard against other guards in the post.

Overall stat wise he has regressed slightly when taking a look at his numbers across the board.

Statistical geeks are just ruining it for everybody. Its not the most ideal and sureproof measure of telling whose hot and not. Just last week, a statistcal per that came out ranked the likes of Baron Davis and Caroon Butler above Yao.
The following players may have put in a significant increase in their production, but to value them more than yao is completely insane.

Actually I believe that the last five or six Utah games Sportscenter has had a highlight featuring someone blowing by Williams.Last night he got two or three lowlights. If you watch their defense carefully you'll notice that their bigs always cheat towards the lane because he has a lot of trouble containing penetration.

Almost everynight, SC was also showing people stuffing one up over Mourning in his prime. Same thing now with Yao. Jason Williams did a nasty crossover Gary payton when he was still a Sonic. And oh yeah, Arenas dropped 60 on Kobe.
Im sure with your logic they are bad defenders too.

I think the difference is saying he's a "Good" defender and an "average" defender. Not quoting you on those words, but from what others said in this thread.

Re: Wade or Deron: Quintessial guard?
It's not going too far to say that Deron is an above-average defender at the point guard position. That doesn't make him All-Defense, of course.
