since gilberts gone down with the knee injury last season, his production has declined to a point where he is arguably a negative impact on his team.
caron and antawn always play like all-stars wen he is down and are capable of leading the team,
the bench seems to play much better with gilbert out,
and guys like antonio daniels get much more playing time.
obviosly the team they hav now isnt going to win nething much in the playoffs, while they probly culd with a HEALTHY gilbert of last season.
but wuld the wizards be better off with the team they hav now + someone they culd get thru trading arenas (even with arenas' trade value much lower atm)?
[EDIT] o and they just beat the raptors, caron and antawn combined for 57 points on a gud shooting percentage.
Arenas's performance negatively affected the team at first because he was not 100% and he physically was not able to do what he could before. But even so, Arenas adapted his game and the the Wizards won their last 3 games with Arenas in the lineup, winning all those games by double digits.
And the blame for the Wizards slow start was not solely Arenas. The bench did not play well, Jamison shot a horrible percentage , and Butler was not taking care of the ball while averaging over 4 turnovers a game. Plus Arenas's stamina was affected as it showed he was not in basketball shape after the knee injury.
But during the last 3 games, the Wizards were sharing the ball just as they are now and was averaging 8 assists per game. While Daniels is a nice player, I would not call him a pure point guard either. He is much more of a slasher but does not have the perimeter game nor the mid range game as Gilbert has.
Since then the Wizards are 5-4, but also 2-4 in their last 6 games. In the game against the 76ers last night, the Wizards only had 84 points with only 16 in the 4th quarter, where they clearly missed a go to scorer like Arenas down the stretch. While they did beat Dallas, they barely beat the Toronto without Chris Bosh.
I think Butler's improvement to his game lies in the fact that he's shooting the 3 point shot with a higher consistency, not from the absence. He is shooting over 50% from the 3 this year.
People won't be saying this when Caron Butler goes down with 20 game injury in a few weeks.

Arenas is a selfish player. He dishes assists to be the No1 assist man in the league. He shoots to be the No1 scorer in the league. It's not to help his team, it's to pad his own stats. He shoots a terrible percentage from the field for a "scoring guard", plays no defense, and runs his mouth when he shouldn't.
