The last thing you want is for him to play while in pain or during injury with a chance to never heal or even worse, the injury become severe.
I'd sit him.

the greatest basketball players in the history of the NBA played nearly every game of their careers. they were tough and knew how to play with minor injuries. a finger injury is a minor injury. lebron is in that category and he should be playing. cavs just need to trust him to avoid the injury from getting worse.

That seems to be the mistake in thinking that a lot of people are making.
A finger injury can be a minor injury. But it can also be a very major injury. It's not so easy to assume that it's a minor injury just because fingers are relatively small parts of the body. If there's damage to joints or tendons, it can be very serious and not just a case of "playing through pain". You can cause serious permanent damage that way.
Put it this way: It's very likely that Larry Hughes will never be able to fully extend his finger ever again because of the damage he caused by coming back too early. Now Lebron isn't Larry of course, but that could happen to anyone. These can be pretty serious injuries.

Not really true. I know Magic missed a whole lot of games his second season, as did jordan.
It's better to be safe than sorry. I'd rest him. Him sitting out another week I promise you won't be a damper on where he stands as the all-time greats. Nobody is going to say "well he did miss a couple weeks early in the season of the 07-08 campaign."
Right now, the cavs need to be thinking playoffs and beyond, they should not be thinking december. Championships aren't won in december but they could be lost (not saying that the cavs are champsionship contenders, but you get my drift.)

Re: lebron's been out too long
To be fair Jordan broke his leg.
Remember on the third comeback Jordan had that Hand injury--from cutting a cigar?

Re: lebron's been out too long
lebron is way too important to rush back...if i were the owner or gm i would force him to sit until he felt 100%...then would make him sit a few more just to be sure...
lebron is the definition of a franchise player, and to rush him back before he is 100% is just stupid...

Re: lebron's been out too long
I think the Cavs are tanking the season on purpose so they can take lebron first overall since he's from Ohio and... oh wait sorry had a flashback there.

lebrons injury was his left index finger. thats not even his shooting finger, there are a lot of players who would play through this. (Mj,kobe, iverson had worse)
lebron should toughen up. he can easily put a cast or thermal wrap on that. not a biggie by any injury standards.

i thought that at first also, but lebron also handles the ball a lot, and he passes a lot...he uses his left a lot...i would say that his off hand is very important to his game...

i love the fact that you're talking about an injury on his non shooting finger as if he doesn't use both hands. This isn't a qb with an injury to his non throwing hand for god's sake.
