Re: Utah trades Gordan Giricek and a first-round pick to Philadelphia for Kyle Korver
I don't see how this is a bad trade for the Jazz. They have, maybe, one or two players coming off contracts next season and don't seem to want to get rid of anybody. Most of the team is young, so there's not really a lot of reward in keeping a draft pick.
Giricek wasn't giving us squat this season and Korver will definitely get some wide open looks in our offense with Boozer down low and Brewer/Kirilenko wandering the baselines.
I like this trade, because in our eyes it was a draft pick for Korver. Giricek was hurting the team a lot more than he was helping.

Re: Utah trades Gordan Giricek and a first-round pick to Philadelphia for Kyle Korver
I would care if that pick was a top 13 but its not. Utah needed another firepower off the bench and they got that. I don't see why people are so hard on Utah for getting a shooter when this team really needs one.
Some of you sound like they should get Tmac or some other stars to get off the bench for Utah while trading Giricek and a 1st rounder. Utah did great and so did Philly.
For once I think both teams got what they wanted, Its obvious that Utah won't be under the salary cap as long as Boozer and Deron (he will get extended) is there.

Both sides got what they wanted.
I know people want to slam Korver but he's on a team where his skill set makes more sense. Sloan will love him because he can shoot from the perimeter, he's a high IQ player, and he hustles.
Also Korver is a better player than Jason Kapono.

They did get outside shooting, but now their poor defense just took another hit. Korver is no 2 guard and we all know AK47 is already doing double duty covering for Okur and Boozer's awful front court defense.

That's assuming that Korver is starting.
While Korver struggles in one-on-one defense he's a pretty good team defender.

Re: Utah trades Gordan Giricek and a first-round pick to Philadelphia for Kyle Korver
The Jazz are the 5th best offense in the league, just wanted to point that out. They aren't having a bad season because of offense or 3pt shooting, and I really find it hard to believe they brought in Korver because of his defense

they score the same, they rebound the same, they assist the same, difference is korver shoots a much worse % from both the field & from 3 compared to kapono who also comes off the bench & plays less minutes.. w/ same production.
kapono is just as good at help d, highly active. kapono hustles, kapono has a high bball IQ, kapono can create his own shot & shoot off the dribble, to the dude earlier in the thread that said he couldn't... completely destroyed Indiana for 17pts in the 4th Q the other week... scored 10 4th Q pts @ SA the other day in a W so he's clutch too.
Korver: FG%; 39 3%; 35
Kapono: FG%; 51 3%; 51
korver is not the better player in regards to anything except maybe man to man D, where they are both lacking so it's hardly a compliment. once again kapono is very active on help d, he just cannot guard his man in iso's.

They brought him in to open up space for Boozer in the paint. Most likely he'll come off the bench. I don't know where people got the information that he's going to start at the 2. If he starts it means they go small and Boozer is up at C, but I doubt he will.
Korver is a glue guy who provides a lot of the intangibles that Giricek didn't (and that's before he was booted off). He's a good communicator on the floor, he's a positive locker room presence, he hustles on the floor, he's good at passing the ball into the post.
It's not about bringing him in to improve the defense, it's bringing him in because he's a better player than Giricek and will contribute right away.
