I love the trade for LA, but the Grizzlies acquired some solid rebuilding tools. Certainly not just Kwame Brown.

those picks are not going to be lottery picks, most likely in the mid to late 20s, critt is a nice piece but thats the only young piece they got(Marc is up in the air) and they didnt free up major space.memphis is not exactly a FA hotspot either.
they should have looked to move Pau to charlotte

What big name star will want to go play for a butchered Grizzlies team?

I don't know the list of UFA's this summer, but whoever signs will do it for the money, not the state of the team. That's what most players sign for - the best contract available.

Welcome back to the world of mediocrity. Much like the Clippers, this franchise seems perpetually doomed.

Re: Where do the Lakers rank now ?
On paper they project well with the big 3 in the West...but I want to see how Pau gets acclimated to the triangle before I say for sure how good they are. I don't think he should have a problem with it, but I didn't think Gary Payton would either.

Assuming Gasol gels right away and all the injury bugs are gone, the Lakers are a top 5 NBA team and a championship contender. As much as I hate to admit it...

With Bynum healthy, you could have argued that the Lakers were a top 5 team. Gasol puts them over the top imo, its a two way gain, they got rid of Kwame (whose confidence was shot and playing the worst ball of his career, if thats possible...), +1, and they got Gasol in the process, +2.

Yeah, you could've argued that, but with Gasol there, there are no arguments whatsoever. The Lakers just look stacked (literally, up front too). You're right though. Getting rid of Kwame is certainly a huge gain. I still can't believe what they were able to get for him.

Re: Where do the Lakers rank now ?
The Laker fans will be disappointed with this guy, just as we have been in Memphis. Most are looking at the stats and just adding those to the current Laker team and putting them as championship contenders. This guy is a cotton ball. As long as the game is finesse he can dominate, but as the season goes on and the games get tougher and more physical he will fold. Definately not worth the 14 million the Lakers will have to pay him.

I don't think the Lakers are looking for him to dominate. The Lakers already have Kobe and Bynum. Memphis fans were looking for him to be the main man, in LA hes going to be a hell of a second or third option.
As long as Gasol can finish open looks at the rim, get rebounds and hit the open jumpshot, the Lakers will be top tier when Bynum gets back.
