What is Devean George thinking?
In a situation like this? Basically he wants his bird rights, so the Mavs can re-sign him.
Why would the Mavs re-sign him at the end of the year if he's the one who blocked their trade? And how in the world would he get anything more than what he's already making? He's older, slower, and still just as inefficient on offense (if not more).
If I'm the Mavs, I tell him "if you don't go, then 1) you'll ride the pine for the rest of the season and 2) we won't re-sign you"
Which would mean his chance at landing another contract, from the Mavs or any other team, would be slimmer.

Re: What is Devean George thinking?
i wouldn't say that, i don't think he's wrong for doing what he's doing. after all, it was in his contract.
i just don't think it will end up benefiting him.

Re: What is Devean George thinking?
he probably doesn't want to pack up and move....... trades are not easy for a NBA player situated with his family in a city.....
its his right to do this, and he wants to stay in Dallas obviously.

Wade accomplished this in two consecutive series in the 2005 playoffs.
2. Joined Wilt Chamberlain, Magic Johnson, and Allen Iverson as the only players ever to record games of 40+ points, 10+ rebounds, and 15+ assists in the same playoff season in 2005.

The last record was held by Kareem Abdul-Jabbar with 63%. Wade accomplished it with less than 20 field goal attempts per game
4. Fifth player in NBA history with at least 30 points, 15 assists and 5 rebounds in a playoff game (5/10/05 vs. WAS). The others are Magic Johnson, Jerry West, Walt Frazier and Oscar Robertson.
5. One of four players in NBA history to have at least 30 points and 12 assists in three consecutive games (November 24-27, 2006). The others are Oscar Robertson, Nate Archibald, and Kevin Johnson. [5]

Re: What is Devean George thinking?
But to get said $$$ Dallas has to resign him. What has Devan George given them this year? Nothing. In fact with a luxury taxed team like Dallas, and a player of his production, I thought they would drop him after this season anyway before I even heard of the trade.
Does Devean George not understand that Early Bird rights only mean something if your current team re-signs you?
George's agent is an idiot. Agent's should have to pass a CBA proficiency test before representing an NBA client because sorry to say it, but George is getting screwed.

Why start the thread if you have all the answers? Anyway, I think we sometimes forget that players are people with lives and families. Moving from Dallas to New Jersey is a LONG way and a huge change. Maybe he did it thinking it would benefit him financially, or maybe he just likes it down there in Texas.

why respond before reading? again, he doesn't care about moving/playing for another team. espn has said this, and even devean has hinted that he's blocking the trade due to the bird rights.
read my first post. never asked why he's blocking the trade, i was more like asking how does he think it will help him at all?

Re: What is Devean George thinking?
It's not just retention of his Bird Rights, and less about the money itself. He wants to play and he wants to win. Since he has some leverage, due to a smart move by he and his agent last summer, he's trying to find out a bit more before waiving his clause.
The catch is that he's going to be persona non grata for blocking a trade of this magnitude - fairly or not. And yes, he's overstating his own relative worth as a player in all this, demanding to know what his role would be on the Nets [especially considering that nobody else on the team knows from night to night thanks to Frank's inept coaching].

Re: What is Devean George thinking?
Probably thinking that he is not going to be in a good situation playing in NJ behind Jefferson and Nachbar.
