Gasol and Odom are a good fit in defense? Odom for AK
Jazz need offense. Lakers need defense.
How about this,
Odom for AK47?

This isn't going to happen, of course, but I like the swap for the Lakers, and I don't know what I think of it for Utah.

Right. Odom provides a unique mismatch offensively, which can be valuable in a pinch come playoff time, plus can grab 10+ rebounds per game from the small forward position, which is valuable next to a power forward who will only give you 8 or so. Plus Odom can handle the ball, which is a huge plus in the triangle. Phil tends to like the point forward types and/or bigger guards.
Odom's role as a sidekick to Kobe was a terrible one. Shifting him down to 4th option makes his skillset unique and his strengths shine. The expectations aren't as high and his role isn't as large, and that will change the perception of his individual success on the Lakers.

Lakers will need plenty of offense if Kobe misses a significant amount of time.

I feel that Odom is the better smarter player, plus he's accustomed to the triangle offense.
AK wouldn't be bringing anything more than Odom outside of a couple of defensive stops.

the lakers should just wait and see how "the goods" plays with pau and bynum first. as said like a million times before, with teams paying so much attention to pau, kobe and bynum, he could thrive
