Re: Barkley: Duncan is the #1 Power Forward of All-Time.
What the hell. Chuck says like 1 line and here comes a 9 page thread. Or like 2 page thread if you're that guy that used to have a Robert Horry avatar.

there goes your credibility.
Unless you're overrating Horace Grant to be more than what he was or you're discounting Drew Gooden to be less than what he is, I don't see that as an example of kbird not being credible.
The problem is not with kbird's conclusion, but the logic to which (s)he is coming to that conclusion.

Re: Barkley: Duncan is the #1 Power Forward of All-Time.
If you factor success.. Duncan is obviously no.1
But talent, skills wise... he isnt as "good" as Barkley and Malone.
Those 2... if had the same team success as Duncan... will no doubt be ahead of them.
I mean, offense wise, Duncan is not as skilled nor talented as Barkley or Malone. Defense wise he is miles ahead... but again, having a very defensive minded team helps too... Barkley and Malone never had the defensive minded team/system Duncan has/had... in an era where big men stars (MVP) is lacking.
KG... doesnt belong... you guys can argue about his stats, but Barkley, Malone had better stats on more successful teams... with equal or lesser talents... KG's only WCF appearance came when he had Cassel in his prime and Sprewell still one of the better veteran swing men...
And now... that he's with 2 legit stars and ex-leaders of their teams... Pierce and Allen... and somehow he wins a championship.... you put a lot of accolades on KG????
KG is behind or equal with McHale... McHale atleast played a real big man role... one of the greatest post scorers of all time...
It's fair to say the argument some people have against Tim Duncan in this regard is had he not been drafted by San Antonio, he would have been most other teams' starting center. He has a traditional center size and a prototypical center skill set. Granted, he has the flexibility to be placed at the four spot but Duncan was placed there because David Robinson already was playing center for the Spurs.
Given Duncan's size and skill set, he overwhelms most power forwards. But then again, as some people will argue, most centers overwhelm most power forwards in size. It's more that circumstances dictated Duncan's place on the floor.
That's my two cents on the issue.

Re: Barkley: Duncan is the #1 Power Forward of All-Time.
Here's how I've got them (subject to more arguing and random mind-changing:
1) Karl Malone
2) Tim Duncan
3) Charles Barkley
4) Bob Pettit
5) Kevin Garnett
6) Elvin Hayes
7) Dirk Nowitzki
8) Dolph Schayes
9) Chris Webber
10) Jerry Lucas
11) Kevin McHale
12) Dennis Rodman
13) Spencer Haywood
14) Dan Issel
15) Buck Williams
16) George Ginnis
17) Gus Johnson
18) Truck Robinson
The first six are really the elite of the elite, and it's easy and fun to argue over who should be above whom. But the next six is where it gets tough and interesting. Do you penalize Dirk for his playoff shortcomings? Or McHale for coming off the bench and not being a strong rebounder? Or Webber for being a lackluster defender? Or Schayes for being a geezer?
