Is Danny Granger a franchise player in his prime?
I am having and argument with a friend. He says that he is the type of player you can build a team around. I disagree with this whole-heartedly and I want your guys' opinion. I think that he is going to be about like Rashard Lewis or Hedo Turkoglu, but my friend says you could build around him and win like the Cavs do with Lebron. What do you guys think?

good secondary player, probably borderline all star, but you can't build around him. Like an RJ, JRich or David West level guy, he's another Iguodala level. If you get a good supporting cast around two guys of that level, you can do pretty well though.

Thats what I said but he thinks that if he had some more talent around him we could win with him as our best player. He by the way wants yall to know that he doesn't think he is on Lebrons level.

Re: Is Danny Granger a franchise player in his prime?
Yeh, I think that Granger's all-star material. He's strong and he's still got several years until he primes. I mean, Jermaine O'Neal was getting horrid stats in his third year. Of course, he's a power forward, and he started one game out of the 36 he played. But it wasn't until his 8th-10th years he hit his prime. With 20.1, 24.3, and 20.1 through 03-04 and 05-06, that's not bad. Of course, in those three years he only played about 70% of the three seasons, missing a total of 74 games [not counting the playoffs] between those three seasons. That did stunt his stats a bit. But nonetheless, it was his 8th through 10th seasons when he played his best.
How can we expect Granger's best to be now, or next year? I think by the time the 2012-2013 season rolls around, he'll be our leading scorer, and our all-star player. Unless, of course, we trade for a strong role player who is already on his way to all-stardom, or is there.
Or we draft Serge Ibaka, who has potential to be the next Shawn Kemp, then we can build around him and have him take us to the finals.

Re: Is Danny Granger a franchise player in his prime?
I can see your friends argument, if he meant to build a team like the Pistons. Fill the team with a bunch of good starters, a good coach, and a good system, along with a few key bench guys, and I could see him doing well. I don't think him becoming a Sheed level player is out of his range.

Re: Is Danny Granger a franchise player in his prime?
The whole notion of franchise players is overrated. There are only like 5 of them and there are 30 teams.
Danny Granger is a great player to build a team WITH.

he'd be the perfect player to have on your team next to a superstar much like Scottie Pippen to MJ, all indiana has to do now is find their MJ

He's kind of like Shane Battier. Great character, consistent, but can't do anything special.

Franchise players are born, you can't become a franchise player.

Kobe is not having Jordan's PPG because Kobe isnt selfish as Michael Jordan. He plays for the team where as Jordan played only for himself.
